The Pocket Home Page

Welcome to "The Pocket"-the first "The Pocket and the Pendant" fansite on the net. This is a happy little corner of the web for us all be obsessive and to keep tabs on what's new with Mark Jeffrey. The site is under constant renovation, but please feel free to look around.

NEWS:

April 17, 2008, Two Travelers Podiobook coming May 1st!

Thanks to college I've not been keeping up like a good girl, but I'm here now, and the word is-on Mark's site , online once more, that The Two Travelers will be available as a podiobook as of May 1st!

And now I have to shut down my computer because it's storming something fierce outside, and I want to be ready if the power goes out. Night all!

September 14, 2007 TWO TRAVELERS RELEASED!

Mark just sent out this email tonight:

Hello friends,
Long time, no chat :) I know ... but I'll keep it short ... long story
short: I've made 'Travelers' available on Lulu.com for now -- I am
still talking with some bigger publishers, so I might have to pull it
at any moment, but tired of waiting so ... have at it!!

March 4, 2007, REVIVAL!

After a very long hiatus-partially due to the fact we all just moved to Mark's site (which is currently hibernating), The Pocket is officially active again, with The Pocketeer Interactive Forums restored.

And as a bonus, Mark was recently featured in The New York Times

May 25th, 2006, So it didn't happen yesterday

But I have it up now-a new fan art pic. Johnny Siren, everyone's favorite overaged psychopath. lol I still haven't gotten him just right but that drawing is a vast improvement to my previous attempts.

Just look under "fans" for the link. And be sure to send me your own fan art here!

May 24, 2006, I'm not dead

Just coming up on the last week of school, working through driver's ed, and job interviews etc.

Out of practicality I am ceasing news updates for the time being, as Mark has his news on his site (where we all go mostly anyway ;)) and since very little is being added to my site. I will continue alerting you to the updates this site will recieve as time goes by (like the ones I expect tonight and later in June), however. This site is by no means shutting down. I'm just trying to conserve space as I have no archives. :P

See you at pocketandpendant.com!

April 14, 2006, Interviews and New Editions

I was holding off updating until a certain item called a transcript arrived but I ran out of patience.

First off, along with the release of the new and improved "Pocket" softcover, Mark has participated in three interviews, including one with DragonPage, and another with libsyn, a video of which can be viewed on Mark's Site. Enjoy!

As for the third, on April 6, Mark gave an hour or so of his time to answer the questions of his avid readers at the Lords of Letters Reading Club at my highschool (A thank-you note is on the way as soon as it gets signed!! ;)). The transcript I was hoping for has not been completed yet, but I will get it up as soon as possible.

In case your wondering what the L.O.L. is, we're a club my best friend and I founded (so we're pretty much local at the moment.). The L.O.L. is an interactive reading group that meets once a week in the library and selects books to share and read, as well as raises funds for the library. We read aloud mostly to improve reading comprehension, speech, and confidence-but if a member really doesn't want to read they don't have to. It's supposed to fun, not traumatizing.

March 23, 2005, Buttons!

I made some buttons for you guys to use. They're in the fans section. Go take a look!

And if you'd like, submit your own!

March 21, 2006, Morpheus!

Mark was invited by the popular p2p platform Morpheus to produce a podcast for them at SxSW this past week! We can expect to hear it any time very soon at Morpheus.com!

March 13, 2006, Predictions and Suggestions

Mark has some funny "Pocket Predictions" sent in by fellow Pocketeer Stijn:

At the eclipse of the sun
The monster will appear in broad daylight
Interpretations will differ
None will have forecast the great cost.
-Nostradamus

Stijn goes on to explain that "This quatrain seems to refer to the Pocket," because "It starts with an eclipse of the sun. The pocket stops everyone (well, nearly everyone from doing anything so monstrous Jadeth and her centurions can look for the pendant. If I remember correctly, the Serpents and Mermaid had differnt ideas on the appearence of Sky chambers in the east. The great cost referred to doesn't spell much good for what it will take of Max in the long run..."

Mark says he's never seen the quatrain or thought about it, and that it's just a coincidence like the Eclipse last year on April 8th.

Or the tenth planet, perhaps? My own comment on the situation is this: No Since we're all in the dreamtime what we think affects it, and that's how this all happens. ;)

Also, Mark left a note on how to order the books since some people were having trouble locating things on the new site, and he also mentions his Max Quick myspace. Check it out!

February 25, 2006, Okay...

This is probably the most irresponsible thing I'm going to do in a long time and for a long time, but I'm not even going to TRY to post news on what's happened recently. You can tell I was sick-and swamped, can't you? I've not been on here for weeks, and I apologize.

Things are going to get a bit hectic for me the next few weeks-I am about to be inducted into NHS and I'm starting Driver's ed which means little will happen during the week until Spring Break, so bear with me until I get things under me-I'll try to avoid a hiatus on news-which of course can always be found at Mark's Site, and with the opening of his new forums ours have been left a ghost town so if no-one minds, I'm going to close them and save the url for a new forum later on. It's just silly having them there now. ;)

I'll be around, hopefully, but now I have an essay to write! Tally-ho!

February 11, 2006, Lots of News!

I'm a little late on the update because I've been busy but I return. Sorry y'all!

First off, Pocketeer Andre has built Mark a Brand New Site (still at pocketandpendant.com, no worries!) with forums, chat, and everything! So while our forums will still be open, feel free to visit Mark's as well-they'll probably have more traffic on them *blushes*

Also, Mark has a new podiobooks.com review on his site-which I'm still trying to find my way around, so I'm afraid I cannot link to it yet. Hahaha, I'm the worst person to be a webmaster-I can't even figure out someone else's website! *sheepish*

And last but not least-CERTAINLY not least-and I hope I don't get killed for this-Pocketeer Saul, on Mark's Site, briefly mentioned the building of his own fansite: The Dreamtime Network!!! At last a sister-site! Or brother-site, if your prefer. Way to go Saul!

January 31, 2006, Max Quick reaches the UK

Ian will be proud to know his home country has caught the Pocketeer bug. Check out the latest in Reviews !

January 24, 2006, "Two Travelers" complete and more reviews!

For all the happy fans, the sequel to "Pocket" is officially finished-well, the first draft is, and we can expect to find the new adventures of the Fabulous Four (NOT Fantastic Four, mind you. :P )!!!!

And secondly, some new and cool reviews will be up in our Reviews Page shortly!

Technically Some Greek Teacher Dude's comment isn't an actual review, it's a teaching idea, but the praise it gives "Pocket" in the idea serves as a positive review, so you will find it with the other reviews! ;)

January 6, 2006, Hardcover editions and larger font

Mark has stated on his home page that LuLu.com now makes hardcover books and he is toying with the idea of upgrading not only the covers, but also the font size of "The Two Travelers" due to complaints that the font in "Pocket" is too small to read comfortably. This would, however, give "Two Travelers" an ENORMOUS size meriting glances from Harry Potter and Inheritance Trilogy fans.

He wants our opinion before he makes a final decision. I've left a poll in the Pocketeer Interactive Forums for you to vote and post your opinions and advice.

December 30, 2005, Yahoo.com Glory and the Ulysses Award

"Pocket" has been been the # 1 entry in the Entertainment and Arts categories in Yahoo's Podcast Directory for some time now. But it has now found a place in the Top 100 of all podcasts. *blinks* Mark, I've gotta hand it to you...;) Not like we didn't expect this though, it's too good to not be noticed!

And even better, "Pocket" is one of three books up for
the Ulysses Award! We're rooting for you Mark!!!

December 28, 2005, Updates on The Two Travelers

Mark has let us in on the goings on of his new book, The Two Travelers:

I'm 95% done with the first draft... I'm really trying to do something great with this second book, trying to vastly improve on what I started with 'Pocket'. In short, I will serve no wine before it's time. :) Until I'm happy with it, it stays on my hard drive getting tweaked. It's over 180,000 words long so it is twice as long as 'Pocket'. It is a more mature novel in many ways. I'm actually pretty happy with it and can't wait to get it out there, so I will not tweak forever. But to set expectations: April 1, 2006 is probably the SOONEST I will release the actual finished book.

The rough cover has also been released on his home page So be sure to take a peek!

December 11th, 2005, New Reviews

We have some more reviews in our Reviews Page from yahoo.com and ebook-reviews.net. Enjoy!

On a funny note, while I remember, I always remember December Eleventh for being the day I got my first pocket knife, as well as for, one year later on the same day, finding it in my sock drawer of all places after misplacing it a month earlier. I know, totally random, but it's always fun to see what people remember days for in their own personal history book. I shall also remember it as the day I bought the "Chronicles of Narnia" soundtrack and proceeded to listen to it seven times through. ;) ok so maybe not SEVEN, but that's a good movie and the music is good too.

December 7th, 2005, Pearl Harbor Day and New Review.

I would like to honor the memory of all who perished and all who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor on this day in 1941.

And second, Mark has recieved his 30th amazon.com review so check it out in the Reviews Page! Congrats Mark!

November 24, 2005, Loads of News!

Wow, Mark! I disappear for less than a week and you pop up with three news pieces-and then I have two of my own.

Number One: Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! For those of you who do not live in America (Ok so I'm only HALF American but hey! I like Holidays!) Thanksgiving Day, also known as Turkey Day-is a national holiday deticated to giving thanks and celebrating all we have to be glad about-along with a lot of food that often revolves around a turkey. But enough of Yankee Lessons, I think we're all surely thankful for one thing: You! Mark! You! :)

Second, since it's short, I've added my first cooperating scan of fanart to the fans page! Remember you can send in your own at my email.

Third, SFFAudio.com has posted their review of "Pocket"-and I believe we all know which page to look for it on by now ;) (Hint for those who had too much turkey-like me-the Reviews Page).

Fourth, Mark went to the Portable Media Expo and did a few interviews about his podcast. One is online, so hop on over to His Site for the link. You need to fast forward a little over halfway to get to his part unless you want to listen to the rest.

And Last but certainly not Least, James Updike, author of Realm Of Dreams has also posted a review you can read on the Reviews Page .

November 5, 2005, Fantasy Novel Review and Yahoo!

Everyone bow down and worship Mark Jeffrey, god of the podcasting network! "Pocket" has made #1 on Yahoo! Podcasts!!! MUAHAHAH! And I am his psychotic web crier-instead of town crier...ok well anyway *starts speaking in Latin and bobs toward the West*

And also The Fantasy Novel Review has reviewed the good, old fashioned, paperback version of "Pocket"-yeah, you think you remember those? Yeah, I've got two right here: *waves "Pocket" and "The Constant Gardener" in the air* Those are paperback novels for you. And the review for "Pocket" can be found in the Reviews section.

Now I shall go read Emerson-who is good but nowhere near as good as our god of podcasting! Muahahahah! (ok so no more sugar for me...)

October 29, 2005, I return with the latest

My apologies for disappearing, I've been swamped with homework and then I got a nasty stomach virus on top of that-but I am better now, so no worries. And an update on my dad's friends in Pakistan: none were harmed by the quake. So that's a relief. Thanks to those of you who prayed. :)

Now on with the POCKET news:

Yahoo "Pocket" reviewer dijayl has hit the 'purpose' of Pocket right on the mark, says well-Mark. Ok sorry, I'm bad with puns. lol read the review and Mark's Comments in the Reviews section.

Also, "Pocket" made the top page of the iTunes client on Apple's iTunes! Way to go Mark! *throws a party*

October 17, 2005, MacPhilly Interview Part Two

Find the interview here. There is a trivia question about "Pocket" on the show and the winner gets a free copy of the book signed!

October 8, 2005, The Quake in Asia

You're in my prayers as with the bombings in London and the Hurricanes. I would like to request any site visitors to please pray for my father's friends/coworkers who live in Pakistan-we have had no contact with anyone since the quake.

October 5, 2005, Technical Difficulties?

If anyone was curious as to why the background on the forums seems to have vanished, my connection to the image (photobucket.com) seems to be down. If anyone has any information on this matter I'd appreciate feedback. Just leave it in the announcements section of the forums or email me.

UPDATE: PhotoBucket appears to be back online now.

October 4, 2005, NyQuil for Max Quick!

No, he's not sick! This Post from Nyquil.org praises "The Pocket and the Pendant" as an equal thrill for Harry's fan club and lovers of Pullman's "His Dark Materials" Trilogy-which I was rudely interrupted during my adventure in those to read a bunch of English Class stuff-then I got into Cornelia Funke and now I have to read "The Scarlet Letter"-so Pullman will make it back into my reading schedule around Thanksgiving hopefully-I don't know WHEN I'm going to get to restart "Dune"-a word of advice, NEVER start reading a book on a Caribbean vacation until you KNOW you are going to finish it before coming back to reality and summer reading. I did the same thing with "The Silmarillion" three years ago-only I wasn't in Antigua, dissing "The Half-Blood Prince" as I attempted to snorkel with my maniac dad...ok I'm shutting up now, jellyfish...

October 3, 2005, MacPhilly Interview

Mark's posted a MP3 file of his interview with MacPhilly on his site. His voice is humorously distorted so don't tease too much! ;)

September 18, 2005, Soccergirl Interview

Mark has a PG-rated link to an interview with Soccergirl on his site. It has some amusing and interesting facts so feel free to listen!

September 11, 2005, MARK RELEASES THE TITLE OF BOOK 2!!!!

So totally awesome for one thing yes, but I'm going to make you visit the Pocketeer Forums to find out! Muahaha, please feel free to join, Mark's account is currently deleted so we can try to give him the ability to post so I'm the only person on there. That's boring you know!

Also, we have some more interviews by our beloved Pocket-maker, you can find them on MacPhilly Almost Live (This one will arrive later this week) and Swashbookler

For more info visit Mark Jeffrey's site.

August 31, 2005, Hurricane Katrina

Just as with the bombings in London I send words of condolence out to everyone affected by the devastating hurricane, directly or indirectly. You're all in my prayers and I hope things get running smoothly again soon.

August 27, 2005, The Book Standard and More!

The Book Standard ran an article yesterday that contained quotes from Mark Jeffrey, who says on his site he was "slightly misquoted" and proceeds to explain the following information:

1.) There is a 'name' production company working developing 'Pocket' into a TV series!!!!! At the current time nothing has been filmed or anything and no networks are yet attached.

2.) The total number of downloads of 'Pocket''s podiobook episodes is over 84,000! Owow!

Brilliant work, Mark!

August 22, 2005, Blogs and Posting Note

On the posting note, I must say it's that time of year again, when we have to sit in classrooms all day learning the same bloody stuff we learned a decade ago. *sigh* If they ever taught something NEW in school I wouldn't mind, but enough griping. I'm a junior this year, so honors, AP, and Club business are going to distract me during the week. I promise you I will try to update not just on weekends but if I vanish Monday through Friday just know it's because I'm not able to access the computer for anything other than schoolwork. I'm not dead! ;)

And on to REAL news:

Blogs on Badgrrl Books and "Wands and Worlds" have commented on "Pocket." You can read their comments on the reviews page.

August 18, 2005 Interview for "EarthCore"

Mark Jeffrey hosted a Q&A With Scott Sigler, author of EarthCore. The MP3 version is on his site.

August 16, 2005 To borrow Mark Jeffrey's phrase: More Commentia Dementia! ;)

Podcast Alley has produced some more positive feedback on "Pocket." It has been added to the reviews page.

August 11, 2005, "Pocket" breaks into iTune's top 100 at 70, rises to 38! Plus reviews and notes on "Pocket" sequel!

Now that my head is officially screwed back on straight I'll get the big news to you! "The Pocket and the Pendant" audio podcast is dancing up the charts on iTunes! We've also go some reviews from listeners on Podcastpickle.com and LuLu.com on the reviews page.

Also, the mastermind behind the whole fandom mentioned on his site he is over the 50,000 word mark on the sequel to "Pocket" (That's about half the length of the first book, but not half of what the second's going to be) and has come up with the title-though he will not say what that is yet *everyone glares* ;)

August 6, 2005, Popular Podcaster writes "Pocket&Pendant" song

Soccergirl, one of the world's most popular podcasters has been listening to POCKET with her sister. They've even recorded a song about the book in Soccergirl's latest podcast. Mark Jeffrey's site has links to the complete and edited versions(some of the content is not suitable for younger listeners).

August 4, 2005, Comments on Sigler's review

Some reviews on Sigler's "Earthcore" Forums:

"I can't complain about anything though because I took the 48 hr break to go download the podiobook: 'The Pocket and The Pendant' by Mark Jeffrey. That is another pretty enjoyable listen (a lower body count though :-) )"

"I finished Pocket and Pendant a while back. Although a children's book, I enjoyed it quite a bit. It isn't up to the standard of "The Hobbit", or "The Chronicles of Narnia", but then, what is? However, I nevertheless enjoyed it immensely, and highly recommend it."
--

I, personally think Jeffrey's Work is as good as Tolkien. I also think that Colfer is better than Rowling, but who gets more publicity? It's all in opinion.

Jeffrey also mentioned the opening of our forums on his site. Thanks!
