Role Play Rants

Rant Number One:

Why do people find it necessary to apologize for a post more than four lines long?

In my mind a long, thoughtful and detailed post is a treat and delight. Keep in mind that I have to read pretty much every Role Play thread in my Moderating duties. Am I wrong to think a good RP should read like a captivating Novel? I want to care about these characters. I want them to deal realistically with the obstacles in their path. And I want the world to be clearly thought out and to obey set rules. A long detailed post can help that so very much.

Rant Number Two:

Not putting an adequate description of your character because 'its in the database.'

No this does not mean I expect to see some thing like: "Her long raven hair fell past her hips in midnight rivulets. She wore a black leather bustier with silver catches and a long flowing ruby red skirt that swished as she walked. Her jade eyes sparkled like those of a large cat searching out its prey." Sound likes an introduction in a bad Vampire/ romance novel doesn't it. And its tedious, there is a fine line between enough detail to entice and so much it becomes boring and pat. But a simple "a beautiful girl" is not enough either really. Perhaps I'm being persnickety. Perhaps I shouldn't be harping on the lack of physical descriptions but more the lack of emotional and character description. Which brings us too...

Rant Number Three

The mysterious cloaked figure:

Usually ending up to be a beautiful beyond belief female elf whose skill with a sword is rivaled by few mortals. Who has a mysterious and often dark past. And usually ends up being either Legolas' wife/ girlfriend or some other such nonsense. What's the matter with being a Hobbit? Or *gasp* Eru forbid a human. And there are not nearly enough Dwarves about... *pauses for a moment to grieve Thorin's death... sniff* Be original!

Rant Number Four

Not all Elves were gifted with mind speech and, the vast majority of Sindarin Elves were dark haired. Also Unless I am gravely mistaken having white hair means you must in someway be related to Celeborn. (I'm no expert so don't hold me to that last one ;) ) Oh, and Legolas never married and the Witch King is a Human... albeit a very shadowy and corrupted Human.

Rant Number Five

Why would you enter a thread without reading the posts before you?

Please, don't anyone ever come into a thread of mine and say: Hey, mind if I join? I haven't read any of it but you could send me the cliff notes...You have no idea how insulting that sort of a request seems to me. Yes, I want to play, but I don't care enough to invest anytime getting to know your thread or characters. I'll just insert myself and to Osse with the consequences on your story. If you aren't willing to read a thread, (and don't whine to me about it being 22 pages long ever read a book?) then don't bother me.

Rant Number Six

Not understanding the difference between TT, TR and NT.

Role Play Tips and Suggestions

Tip Number One:

Get a dictionary.

My spelling is far from perfect. I do try though unlike many in the RP forums. There are actually entries that are so bad I have to read them aloud to begin to understand them. The sad thing? From the slang they use they are my countrymen... Americans... *shudder* And if you are online and participating on this site or many others I can be pretty safe in assuming you speak English in one form or another. Also if you are online you have access to dictionaries and spell checkers galore. Here's one just for convenience sake...Free Online Spell Checker
