Elves
I bring word from Elrond of Rivendell. An alliance once existed between elves and men. Long ago we fought and died together. We come to honor that allegiance.
Haldir was a Marchwarden who guarded the northern borders of Lothlórien. He was the first to greet the Fellowship when they arrived at the Golden Wood.
He had two brothers, Rúmil and Orophin. Haldir guided the Fellowship through Lothlórien to Caras Galadhon. After that he returned to his brothers, then came to guide the Fellowship out of Lothlórien.
The meaning of his name is not clear, but it is either 'hidden hero' or 'tall one'. It is not mentioned when he was born, or if he had a wife. He is mentioned briefly in The Two Towers when Sam speaks on the Elven rope he was carrying made of hithlain. He does not appear in The Return of the King.
Haldir is one of my favorite characters. For some reason I found him very amusing in the book. Anyways, Haldir is very cool and this page is in his due, since someone *cough*PJ*cough* decided his character needed to die in TTT. Which he didn't. Ok, well here's some other reasons I'm making him a page:
- He fights for the elves
- He helps the fellowship
- He saves Rohan from dieing at Helm's Deep
- He's can be slightly arrogant, but I find that funny.
- He died unjustly
- It took a slash from a sword, an arrow, and an axe to kill him
- He's one of the only elves that doesn't look like a girl
- He's friends with Aragorn
- He's always got the element of surprise
- He's got some real cool moves
- He's just cool!
Here are some Haldir quotes that I like (even though he doesn't talk that much):
- "You have entered the realm of the lady of the wood. You cannot turn back now."
- "That dwarf breathes so loud I could have shot him in the dark."
- "We have not had dealings with the Dwarves since the Dark Days."
- "You bring great evil with you."
- "You can go no further."
- "If you so desire, I shall lead the way..."
- "We are proud to fight along side men once more."
Well, that's about it for now... Please post in the guestbook if you have anymore!
To the Sea, to the Sea! The white gulls are crying,
The wind is blowing, and the white foam is flying.
West, west away, the round sun is falling.
Grey ship, grey ship, do you hear them calling,
The voices of my people that have gone before me?
I will leave, I will leave the woods that bore me;
For our days are ending and our years failing.
I will pass the wide waters lonely sailing.
Long are the waves on the Last Shore falling.
Sweet are the voices in the Lost Isle calling,
In Eressëa, in Elvenhome that no man can discover,
Where the leaves fall not: land of my people for ever!
Legolas Greenleaf was the son of King Thranduil of the Mirkwood Realm. The name 'Legolas' literally meant 'green leaf'. He was a Silvan elf of Sindarin descent and his birthdate is not known.
He lived in Mirkwood until he was sent to Rivendell to tell the news of Gollum escaping. There he ended up becoming part of the Fellowship of the Ring. He travelled with Aragorn and Gimli, and named Gimli 'elf-friend'. He fought at the Battle of the Hornburg and the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. He travelled on the Paths of the Dead, and often rode with Gimli behind him on his horse.
After the War of the Ring he lived in Ithilien with elves from Mirkwood.
When Aragorn died, he finally followed the sea-longing the gulls had awoken in him, and sailed West in a boat he built himself. He took Gimli with him, because of their great friendship. He passed into the West in 120 of the Fourth Age.
There is also a Legolas Greenleaf in the story of the Fall of Gondolin (in the First Age), but it is not known if they are the same elf. That Legolas led the refugees over the plains, because he was night-sighted.
Legolas is one of my favorite characters most of the time, except for when my friend gets too obsessed and scares me away from him. I like him a lot, but not so much in the "Leggy is soooo hot!" way. He's just cool!
Anyways, here's some other reasons I like Legolas:
- He's very loyal
- He's awesome at archery
- He's an elf
- He looks up to Aragorn
- He's not exactly ugly ; )
- He's kind of mysterious
- He rarely shows alot of emotion, so when he does, you just gotta love it!
- He's got cool hair and clothes
- He kicks butt in battle
Yeah, there's more but I can't think of them right now... So, as always, here's some cool quotes from the old guy:
- "And you have my bow."
- "A red sun rises. Blood has been spilt this night."
- "You're late. You look terrible."
- "You lie!"
- "Would you like me to describe it to you or shall I go find a box?"
- "Your friends are with you."
- "Come! Gimli, we are gaining on them!"
- "You would die before your stroke fell."
- "Hiro hyn hîdh ab 'wanath."
- "Aragorn, ragorn, nedin dagor hen ú-'erir ortheri. Natha daged dhaer."
- "We have trusted you this far, you have not led us astray. Forgive me, I was wrong to despair."
- "19!"
- "The stars are veiled. Something stirs in the East…a sleepless malice."
- "Have you learned nothing of the stubborness of dwarves?"
- "The way is shut. It was made by those who are dead, and The Dead keep it. The way is shut."
- "What about side by side with a friend?"
Well, that's all I have for now. I was doing those from memory, so excuse me for any mistakes. *MORE LATER*
Nin o Chithaeglir, lasto beth daer, Rimmo nin Bruinen dan in Ulair! Nin o Chithaeglir, lasto beth daer, Rimmo nin Bruinen dan in Ulair!
Arwen Undómiel was born to Elrond and Celebrían, in TA 241. She was the sister to Elladan and Elrohir. She was half-elven, and married Aragorn. She was so beautiful the elves said that she was the very likeness of Lúthien come on the earth again.
Arwen spent much of her early life in Lothlórien, the land of her mother's people. But in TA 2951, she met Aragorn in Rivendell when she came to visit her father. In TA 2980, Aragorn came to Lothlórien and there they met again, and decided that one day they would marry.
However, Elrond put a number of conditions in front of Arwen and Aragorn. He said to Aragorn that he would not let Arwen marry anyone less than the King of Gondor and Arnor, and he said that Arwen would enjoy the life of the elves as long as he was in Middle-earth. Arwen could therefore not choose a mortal life until her father sailed over the Sea.
She made the standard that was flown on one of the Corsair ships Aragorn commanded in the War of the Ring. She wrought the stars on the banner out of gems.
She and Aragorn wed on Midsummer's Day in TA 3019. As she was a half-elf, she chose to become a mortal when she wed Aragorn, and she gave her passage to the West to Frodo Baggins.
She bore Aragorn a son called Eldarion and a few daughters. When Aragorn died, she returned to Lothlórien and laid herself upon Cerin Amroth to die. There her grave will stay until the shape of the world is changed.
Arwen is another great character in the LotR movies. Her part was a lot smaller in the book, but I'm glad Peter Jackson brought her out for the movies. It gives Aragorn more story. Anyways, here are some other reasons I like her:
- She's very loving
- She's loyal
- She loves her father AND Aragorn, though it usually causes her grief
- She has a cool horse and sword ;)
- She also makes you sad when she cries
- She's always got hope
Yes, those are some of the reasons she's come to be one of my favorites. Let's just say she's my favorite female character. I prefer her over Eowyn and Galadriel. lol Anyways, here are some of her quotes:
- "What’s this? A ranger caught off his guard?"
- "I do not fear them."
- "Noro lim Asfaloth!"
- "If you want him, come and claim him!"
- "What grace is given me, let it pass to him… Let him be spared… Save him."
- "Your time will come. You will face the same evil, and you will defeat it. A si i-Dhúath ú-orthor. Ú or le a ú or nin."
- "I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone."
- "I choose a mortal life."
- "It is mine to give to whom I will... like my heart."
- "The light of the Evenstar does not wax and wane. It is mine to give to whom I will. Like my heart. Go to sleep."
- "Ú i vethed nâ i onnad. Boe bedich go Frodo. Han bâd lîn."
- "Ae ú-esteliach nad, estelio han. Estelio ammen."
- "It was a gift. Keep it."
- "May the grace of the Valar protect you."
- "I have made my choice."
- "I don't believe you."
- "There is still hope."
- "Gerich veleth nîn, adar."
- "Tell me what you have seen."
- "But there is also life. You saw there was a child! You saw my son!"
- "Some things are certain. If I leave him now, I will regret it forever. It is time."
- "From the ashes a fire shall be woken. A light from the shadows shall spring. Renewed shall be blade that was broken. The crownless again shall be king."
- "This was my choice. Ada, whether by your will or not, there is no ship now that can bear me hence."
- "I wish I could've seen him...one last time."
Well, that's it for now! | |
