~¤Welcome To MY World¤~

Hobbits

Home is behind the world ahead
And there are many paths to tread.
Through shadow, to the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight.
Mist and shadow, cloud and shade.
All shall fade! All shall fade!

Born to Paladin II Took and Eglantine Banks in TA 2990, he was the youngest of four, and the only boy. His sisters were Pearl, Pimpernel and Pervinca. He was more commonly known as Pippin.

He was the youngest of the hobbits in the Fellowship. At Parth Galen, he and Meriadoc were caputured by Orcs and were carried off. They managed to escape into Fangorn Forest, and there they met an Ent called Treebeard.

They were both there for the storming of Isengard, and when the palantír was thrown out the window, Pippin picked it up. It preyed on his mind, and he stole it from Gandalf to look into. After this, Gandalf took Pippin away with him to Minas Tirith. There, he became guard for Denethor.

He fought for the men, and was called 'Ernil i Pheriannath' (Prince of the Halflings) by the people of Minas Tirith.

After the War of the Ring and the Scouring of the Shire, he lived with Merry in the house at Crickhollow. He was considered a giant among hobbits now, because of the ent-draughts he had drunk with Treebeard.

In FA 6, he married Diamond of Long Cleeve, and the had a son called Faramir Took in FA 9. In FA 13 he became the Thain of the Shire.

In FA 63, he and Merry rode to Rohan and Gondor to spend their last few years there. They were not seen in the Shire again, and their bodies were laid in Rath Dínen with the greats of Gondor.

Pippin is probably my favorite Lord of the Rings character. (Others come very close, though!) One of the reasons I like Pippin is he's alot like me. Funny, friendly, generally happy, and his friends mean the world to him. Some other reasons why I like Pip so much are:

  • He's funny
  • He's loyal
  • He's incredibly cute
  • He doesn't always understand what's going on
  • He loves his "second breakfast"
  • He would never let a friend down
  • He's curious
  • He can sing
  • When he cries, I cry
  • He just makes you smile :)

Well, there's lot's more, I just don't want to type them. But here's some quotes:

  • "But, what about second breakfast?"
  • "You need intellegence on this sort of mission...quest...thing."
  • "Merry.......I'm hungry."
  • "And who's side are you on?"
  • "Don't talk to it Merry. Don't encourage it!"
  • "What do they look like?" o_0
  • "This feels like sitting down at The Green Dragon after a long days work.
  • "I'm sorry, Merry! I won't do it again."
  • "I am a Halfling. Hard, bold and wicked!"
  • "Do you think there's any hope, Gandalf? For Frodo and Sam?"
  • "This is just a ceremonial position. I won't have to actually fight. Right, Gandalf?"
  • "He's my second cousin on my mothers side, twice removed."
  • "I don't want to be in a battle. But waiting on the edge of one I can't escape is even worse."
  • "We are sitting on a field of victory enjoying a few well-earned comforts. The salted pork is particularly good."
  • "We'll see each other soon. Won't we?"

Ummm... That's all for now, but I'm adding more soon.

Oh you can search far and wide,
You can drink the whole town dry,
But you'll never find a beer so brown,
As the one we drink in our hometown.
You can keep your fancy ales,
You can drink them by the flagon,
But the only brew for the brave and true,
Comes from the Green Dragon!

Born to Saradoc Brandybuck and Esmerelda Took in 2982 of the Third Age, he was an only child. Normally known as Merry, he was called 'Master Holdwine' in Rohan, and was later called 'The Magnificent'.

He was part of the the Fellowship of the Ring. At the breaking of the Fellowship, he and Peregrin were captured by Orcs and carried off. They managed to escape into Fangorn Forest where they met an Ent called Treebeard.

He was there for the storming of Isengard, and later became a knight of Rohan. He rode into The Battle of the Pelennor with a knight called Dernhelm, even though he had been told he would be no use. He then distinguished himself by helping to kill the Lord of the Nazgûl.

After the War of the Ring he lived for a time with Pippin in Crickhollow. He married Estella Bolger and became the Master of Buckland in the year 11 of the Fourth Age.

In the spring of 63 of the Fourth Age, a message came from Rohan that King Éomer wished to see Master Holdwine again. He and Pippin set off, and were in Rohan when Éomer died. They both then went to Minas Tirith, and when they died, their bodies were laid in Rath Dínen with the greats of Gondor.

Merry is another one of my favorite characters. The first time I watched FotR, I couldn't tell Merry and Pippin apart. It didn't take me very long to fix that. After, I wasn't exactly a huge Merry fan for a short while. But, now I can't beleive that. Merry is deffinatly another very cool character! Here are some reasons I like him:

  • Pippin would be lost without him. He's Pip's best friend and kind of keeps him in line. (When he's not getting in trouble with him!)
  • He's funny
  • He's loyal
  • He's slightly more intellegent then Pip. (Not that Pip's dumb or anything.... Just a little slow at times...)
  • He has a will to fight with his friends, because they mean so much to him.
  • He's just... hobbit-like! :)

Well, that's why I like Merry. Here's some of his quotes that I've found:

  • "‘Dunno why he is so upset. It’s only a couple of carrots!"
  • "Oww! I think I've broken something."
  • "This, my friend, is a pint."
  • "Don't think he knows about second breakfast, Pip."
  • "I think we might have made a mistake leaving the Shire, Pippin."
  • "Hasty? Our friends are out there. They need our help. They cannot fight this war on their own."
  • "But your part of this world! Aren’t you? You must help! Please! You must do something."
  • "The fires of Isengard will spread. And the woods of Tookborough and Buckland will burn. And, and all that was once great and good in this world will be gone. There won’t be a Shire, Pippin."
  • "Welcome, my Lords, to Isengard!"
  • Pippin! (Multiple times)
  • "Why did you look? Why do you always have to look?"
  • "Don't you understand? The Enemy thinks you have the Ring. He's going to be looking for you, Pip. They have to get you out of here."
  • "I know you've run out. You smoke too much, Pip."
  • "I don't know... I don't know what's going to happen."
  • "Sorry, it isn't all that dangerous. It's not even sharp."
  • "All my friends have gone to battle. I would be ashamed to be left behind!"
  • "I knew you'd find me."

Well, that's all the quotes and Merry for now!

It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn’t want to know the end, because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing. This shadow, even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines it’ll shine out the clearer. Those are the stories that stayed with you, that meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now, folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. They kept going, because they were holding onto something.

Born April 6th, 2983 in the Shire to Hamfast Gamgee and Bell Goodchild. He was the fifth of six children (Hamson, Halfred, Daisy, May and Marigold were his siblings).

He and his family lived at Number 3 Bagshot Row, Hobbiton.

By the time of Bilbo's eleventy-first birthday party, Sam had taken over the tending of the garden at Bag End from his father. Bilbo had been teaching him to read and write, and few stories of the Elves. He had always wanted to meet elves, as he had never been out of the Shire until the quest.

He was chosen to accompany Frodo by Gandalf when he found him eavesdropping outside one of the windows of Bag End. He was also in league with Merry and Pippin, and told them about Gandalf's plan for Frodo to leave the Shire.

In Rivendell, he stayed by Frodo's bedside as he recovered from his wound. He also snuck into the Council of Elrond and insisted on going with him.

Throughout the whole quest, he stayed with Frodo. He cooked them meals when he could while they marched through Mordor. He carried Frodo when he got too tired.

When he thought Frodo was dead in the pass of Cirith Ungol he took Sting, the Phial of Galadriel, and the One Ring from his seeminglessly lifeless form, and so was a Ringbearer, if only for a short amount of time. He rescued Frodo, and helped him on the final steps up to Mount Doom.

When the War of the Ring was over, as was the Scouring of the Shire, he married Rosie Cotton. He was elected Mayor of the Shire seven consecutive times starting in 3027 of the Third Age, and was a very well-respected gentle Hobbit. He and Rosie had 13 children; Elanor, Frodo Gardner, Rose Gardner, Merry Gardner, Pippin Gardner, Goldilocks Gardner, Hamfast Gardner, Daisy Gardner, Primrose Gardner, Bilbo Gardner, Ruby Gardner, Robin Gardner, and Tolman Gardner (Tom).

In 3036, King Elessar came to the Brandywine Bridge and gave Samwise the Star of the Dúnedain.

When Rosie died in 3082, Samwise rode away from Bag End. He went to see his daughter Elanor in the Tower Hills, and then it is said he rode to the Grey Havens and passed over the sea; the last of the Ringbearers.

*Note* It is not certain that Sam indeed passed over sea from the Grey Havens, since it is said to be a tradition passed down in his family from his daughter, Elanor Gamgee.

Sam is one of my favorite characters by far. You just can't help but love him, especially if you've seen RotK. Here are some of the main reasons I like Samwise:

  • He's so sweet
  • He's amazingly loyal
  • He cares so much
  • He just doesn't give up
  • He never forgets where he came from
  • He remembers the little things
  • He has such a heart-breaking cry
  • He doesn't always understand the big picture
  • He's just so loveable :)

I can't write anymore for fear of boring you more than I already have. Here's some quotes from Mr. Gamgee:

  • "I think I'll just have another ale."
  • "Boy, mind who you're sweet-talkin'."
  • " I haven't been droppin' no eaves, sir, honest. I was just cutting the grass under the window there, if you follow me. "
  • " N-n-nothin' important! That is, I heard a good deal about a Ring, a Dark Lord and something about the end of the world, but please Mr. Gandalf, sir, don't hurt me. Don't turn me into anything unnatural."
  • "If I take one more step, it'll be the farthest away from home I've ever been."
  • "It's just something Gandalf said. 'Don't you lose him, Samwise Gamgee.' And I don't mean to."
  • "You've been into Farmer Maggot's crop!"
  • "That fellow's done nothin' but stare at you since we arrived."
  • "Did you hear that? Rivendell! We're going to see the Elves."
  • "Back you Devils!"
  • "The finest rockets ever seen,They burst in stars of blue and green, Or after thunder, silver showers, Came falling like a…rain of flowers"
  • "Thank you, my lady. Have you run out of those nice, shiny daggers?"
  • "I made a promise, Mr. Frodo. A promise: "Don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee." And I don't mean to. I don't mean to. "
  • "Mordor. The one place in Middle-Earth we don’t want to see any closer is the one place we’re trying to get to, and just where we can’t get. Let’s face it, Mr. Frodo. We’re lost. I don’t think Gandalf meant for us to come this way."
  • "Well, let me see. Oh, yes. Lovely. Lembas bread. And look! More lembas bread."
  • "I don’t usually hold with foreign food, but this Elvish stuff-it’s not bad."
  • "There are dead things, dead faces in the water."
  • "Oh save us. My old Gaffer would have a thing or two to say if he could see us now."
  • "Can’t you hear yourself? Don’t you know who you sound like?"
  • "What we need’s a few good taters."
  • "Po-ta-toes! Boil ‘em, mash ‘em, stick ‘em in a stew. Lovely big golden chips with a nice piece of fried fish. Even you couldn’t say no to that."
  • "You’re hopeless."
  • "Mr. Frodo, look! It’s an Oliphaunt. No one at home will believe this."
  • "Do you want to know what happened to Boromir? You wanna know why your brother died? He tried to take the ring from Frodo. After swearing an oath to protect him, he tried to kill him. The ring drove your brother mad."
  • "It’s me. It’s your Sam. Don’t you know your Sam?"
  • "I wonder if we’ll ever be put into songs or tales?"
  • "I wonder if people will ever say, ‘Let’s hear about Frodo and the ring.’ And they’ll say, ‘Yes, that’s one of my favorite stories.’ ‘Frodo was really courageous, wasn’t he, Dad?’ ‘Yes my boy, the most famousest of hobbits, and that’s saying a lot.’"
  • "Samwise the Brave."
  • "Don't call me a liar! You're a liar!"
  • "I'm on your side, Mister Frodo."
  • "It's gone! The Elven-bread!"
  • "Let him go, you filth!"
  • "Wake up! Don't leave me here alone! Don't go where I can't follow! Wake up!"
  • "Samwise, you fool."
  • "That's for Frodo! And for the Shire! And that's for my old Gaffer!"
  • "We did it, Mister Frodo. We made it to Mordor."
  • " Look, the Orcs! They're moving off. You see, Mister Frodo, some luck at last."
  • "I don't think there will be a return journey, Mister Frodo."
  • "Do you remember the Shire, Mister Frodo? It'll be spring soon, and the Orchards will be in blossom. And the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket and they'll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields. And eating the first of the strawberries with cream. Do you remember the taste of strawberries?"
  • "I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you! Come on!"
  • "Rosie Cotton dancing. She had ribbons in her hair. If ever I was to marry someone, it would've been her. It would've been her."
  • "Well, I'm back."

Okay, that's it for now! Maybe more after RotK EE...
