Elanor

Pronunciation: ehl'aanore
Related Terms: Lothlórien, Elanor the Fair

Also called: sun-star

A small, golden flower that grew on the slopes of Cerin Amroth in the land of Lothlórien. Its name meant sun-star, and it was one of the most beautiful flowers in Middle-earth.

Aragorn and Arwen plighted their troth on Cerin Amroth among the elanor and niphredil, and when Aragorn returned to Lothlórien as a member of the Fellowship, he held a blossom of elanor as he remembered his time with Arwen.

Samwise Gamgee named his first daughter Elanor the Fair. It was customary to name Hobbit-lasses after flowers, and Sam chose Elanor because of his daughter's great beauty.

Meaning:
Elanor is composed of the words "el" meaning "star" and "anor" meaning "sun."
