Falls of Rauros

Related Terms: Anduin, Boromir

A spectacular waterfall situated where the River Anduin left the Emyn Muil.

Above the Falls was the lake known as Nen Hithoel, and below the Falls the river met with the Mouths of Entwash on the West, and the swamp known as Nindalf (Wetwang) on the East. The Falls could be bypassed by travellers using a portage known as the North Stair. This Portage was carved into the cliffs early in the Third Age at the command of the Kings of Gondor.

After Boromir's death, his funeral bier was sent over the Falls of Rauros in one of the elvish boats the Fellowship were given when leaving Lothlórien.
