Haradwaith

Related Terms: Far Harad, Near Harad, Umbar

The Southlands; Also known as Sunland, Sutherland, and Harad. Haradwaith was the area of Middle-Earth south of Gondor, Mordor and Khand.

Haradwaith was made up of Far Harad, Near Harad and Umbar ( though there is some debate amongst scholars as to whether or not Umbar should be considered part of Haradwaith).

It was an area containing many diverse races of men in many kingdoms. The one thing that all of the peoples of Haradwaith had in common is that they were allied with Sauron throughout most of the time from his occupation of Mordor at about the year 1000 of the Second Age until his defeat in the War of the Ring in the Year 3020 of the Third Age.
