| ROTK full trailer screen caps (180) |
Monday, September 29, 2003 @ 10:52 PM |
| Just wanted to let folks know that I made a heap of screen caps last night. (TORN usually does a good job with the frame-by-frame, but for some reason theirs are really blurry this time.) You can download a zip file here. Good for making icons, graphics, whatever you feel like--knock yourself out. |

| ROTK trailer screen caps |
Wednesday, July 30, 2003 @ 8:04 PM |
Just wanted to repost this for folks who may have missed it yesterday--TORN had to take the trailer links down, but I managed to get a copy and make screen caps first. You can download all 80 images in a zip file here or see them on a series of pages on my site.
As someone very helpful on another message board pointed out to me, the picture (very first on page) I thought was of "Dernhelm"? It's Merry and Pippin.
One more thing: If you go on Kazaa looking for the file, try to find one called "ROTKsynced.mov." That's the one I have--it's been reduced from a 26 mb .asf file with no loss of quality, and the sound has been synced up to the picture. |

| New ROTK trailer caps |
Wednesday, July 30, 2003 @ 4:05 AM |
TORN has just been made to take the (teaser?) trailer and mirrors down, but I managed to snag a copy of the file, and I've screen-capped it (you knew you could count on me). You can get the images in a zip file here. Here's hoping a higher-res version comes out soon.
ETA: I've put them all up on a series of pages on my site for those who don't want to download the zip. |

| "What does the black ribbon hide?" |
Saturday, July 26, 2003 @ 8:27 AM |
Just posted the first entry in a serial I'm starting--a new letter every Friday until October, and then a new chapter of the story each Friday that month. I actually have the entire series of letters written out, so there's no danger that I'm just going to give up on it, you know?
I'm still writing the story, but I have about 45 pages on it so far. I can hardly explain it--I got this idea all of two weekends ago, and already I have this much on it. And while the letters are funny (well, supposed to be--I hope they're funny), the story's more of a Victorian/gothic/adventure/romance/steampunk sort of thing. Fortunately, I only have one class (grad school) this summer, so I've had enough time to get the bulk of it done, and I'll keep revising and polishing until October.
The best part is that the website has turned out really well, I think--considering that my movie news site's design is pretty atrocious. I'm hoping that it won't run out of data transfer too quickly--I'm particularly proud of "the last known photographs of Mr. D. Everett Russell." You can see everything here |

| Journal 21: In which I design an actual movie logo |
Tuesday, May 27, 2003 @ 12:17 AM |
I know, it sounds crazy. But my best guy friend, Vladimir, is making a movie over in Croatia--he won the Berlin Pitch Point competition a couple of years back, and is finally getting to make his movie. (Although he's still having a hard time getting the money he was promised.) So he sent me pictures of the cast to put up on my site, and I made a preview page like I do for all the movies we preview, and I needed something for the corner where I usually put a movie poster or a logo or something. Well, there's a seven-hour time difference between us, and it was 11 pm, so I couldn't exactly ask him what to do. So I mocked up a logo myself. And he liked it so much that we're going to use it until he gets a professional teaser logo made. I was proud. |

| New ROTK pics and wallpaper |
Friday, May 23, 2003 @ 11:16 PM |
Fnarrrrr. The new pics from New Line just came out in superrrrgigante versions last night, and they are AMAZING. Naturally, I made wallpaper (always my first reaction). You actually get to see Merry and Pippin's armor this time, and it is so cool. Oh, and a full-length shot of Legolas with his hand on Aragorn's shoulder. |

| ROTK preview updated & overhauled (again) |
Sunday, May 18, 2003 @ 10:37 AM |
| After 65 new pics, I lost count. The preview is now two pages instead of one, and most of the second is Minas Tirith and/or battle scenes--some excellent Aragorn and Legolas pictures. There's also a few more Sam and Frodo pictures from Shelob's lair. Some of them are from the official site, and some of them are terrible screen caps from the E3 convention, but what're you gonna do? (Well, I'm going to bed now, but that's beside the point.) |

| New pic, spoilers at ROTK preview |
Friday, May 09, 2003 @ 2:41 AM |
I have a few more to add, actually--some new ROTK action figures that show you what Eowyn and Sam and Frodo will look like in their disguises. You can see the page as it is here--if you're looking for the spoilers, hit ctrl + F and search "spoiler"; you'll have to swipe over them to see them anyway, so you're safe. The new picture is Frodo in Shelob's lair--all of this courtesy TheOneRing.net, but you can see it on the preview in the context of all the other stuff.
Oh, I almost totally forgot--I had a chance to review the script for 50 First Kisses, the next Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore movie, made more interesting by the fact that Sean Astin is in it. I'm not sure who he plays--I think it's Doug, Drew's brother.
Need to update the main news tonight. Very tired, sort of depressed for no good reason. They did add more spots in the writing workshop I wanted to get into, so it looks like I'll be taking a summer class--I'll only get May off, but I won't have to get another job. And the tornadoes have stopped, so that's something--I was having to unplug everything and cower in the basement every two hours for about three days there. Here's hoping the weekend's better. |

| Cute guy? I thought so |
Friday, May 02, 2003 @ 12:52 PM |
Maybe a little growly, though. Got hold of some pictures from this independent fantasy movie, Ancanar. It's still in post-production, so I don't know when it's coming out. I heard about it on TheOneRing.net, got interested, signed up for the email newsletter--and now the trailer's back up, four posters, tons of stuff. Anyway, I have a movie news site, blah blah blah, thought I'd ask if they'd like some free publicity. Well, guess what? Turns out they would. The very nice webmaster sent me five pictures (not on the website!), and the director/writer and director/producer/costar (man, I feel tired just writing all that out) answered a couple of questions for me. Really nice folks. Basically, the movie's set in a world like Tolkien's--inspired by Tolkien--and it looks interesting. Check out the preview page I cooked up and tell me what you think. |

| Purged message boards; new Ancanar posters |
Thursday, May 01, 2003 @ 3:22 AM |
I purged our message boards because frankly, they sucked--hardly anyone posted. We had a few very nice people sign up recently, so if you were one of them, do please come back and post again. I've just started a few new topics so that it looks more inviting. Basically, it's anything movie-related (because that's what my site covers, movie news), including LOTR, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Matrix, X-Men, actors, awards, general discussion, etc. And now that I'm done with exams, I promise I'll actually be there to chat if anyone comes over.
Meanwhile, I wrote to the good folks at Ancanar.com, and they're going to send me some new stills that aren't on the site. They've also got a choose-your-favorite-poster contest going, and the trailer (which was briefly up a while back) is going back up at iFilm tomorrow.
So I'm working on a preview page for Ancanar and an X2 cast feature and a handful of script reviews (The Last Unicorn live action remake, Peter Jackson's King Kong, 50 First Kisses)...I'll probably put them up next week. whew. Tired. Can't wait for X2 on Sunday, which is when I'm going. I'm trying to hit the ground running, working on the site while I'm off this month, since I'll have to start up some sort of summer job in June, but man... two exams and three papers. All I want to do right now is sleep. |

| ROTK preview updated & overhauled |
Saturday, April 26, 2003 @ 11:29 PM |
Added more pictures and reorganized the thing --I've given up on trying to guess what order the scenes will be in. Not all the links are in, either, but oh well.
Also have a new blog, Trailer Park--it's just an older page off my site that looks a lot better and is easier to update in blog format. My primary blog, Short Attention Span Theater, is still going.
So tired. That's where I've been for the last few weeks--writing term papers. Have to write that Roaring Girl paper tonight--15 pages. And I haven't even started the research. Fortunately, this is my second class on Renaissance lit, and I've read a lot in the period--I at least have an idea of where to look for things. Just wrote the Ivanhoe paper last week--only 10 pages, but it had to have some 14 sources (gahhhh). I have a bunch of movie/script reviews I need to write, and I won't even be able to look at them until my exams are over. Fnarr. You can see why I'd rather work on my website--it's like productive procrastination. At least I'm off the whole month of May (yay!). |

| Short Attention Span Theater is back up |
Saturday, April 12, 2003 @ 12:21 PM |
Yay! That makes me happy. I missed my blog. I don't know what was wrong with Blogger, but I ended up paying the $35 (which really hurts when you're a starving grad student) for Blogger Pro, but with any luck I should be getting a new job next month anyway (I'm currently just starving--I mean, studying--full-time).
Also got hold of The Art of The Two Towers today (a gift)--very pretty book. Love the costume sketches.
Reading Ivanhoe at the moment, for a class--very good, despite being one of those Classics with a capital C that everyone's heard of but no one ever reads anymore. If you like LOTR, you might like this--it's not fantasy, but it's set in the reign of Richard the Lionhearted, and Robin Hood even shows up at one point. |

| LOTR actors news: Pirates/Caribbean, Matrix Reloaded, Troy |
Friday, April 11, 2003 @ 2:43 AM |
Very busy last night--the new Matrix Reloaded trailer just came out last night, and I screen-capped that one, too. If you've ever wanted a jillion Hugo Weavings, now's your chance.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The final poster has come out, and the file I found was big enough that I was able to make a crystal-clear wallpaper out of it.
Troy: Helen has finally been cast--a German model/actress named Diane ("dee-AHN" ) Kruger. Who? Yeah, I know.
Anyway, working on some printable LOTR bookmarks--the problem is mostly that I have too many, and I'm trying to figure out how to put them all up. More on that when I get there.
Oh, and our poster contest is in full swing now.

| Daily Digest/Hollywood Dreams Online poster contest |
Wednesday, April 09, 2003 @ 6:55 PM |
Yay! Our first contest! The poster contest I mentioned before came through--you can enter to win a set of three theatrical-release Two Towers posters. Here's HDO's official description:
We'll be holding our first competition this month in conjunction with www.dailydigest.net a great information site for movie lovers. We'll be giving away a set of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers A, B & C double sided, original posters, including shipping & handling. The winner will be randomly chosen by us on May 1st, 2003. To enter simply sign up to our mailing list. This list is not sold or used by anyone other than Hollywood Dreams. Everyone who signs or has already signed up will automatically be entered in the draw and all future draws. Good luck to one and all.
This is the same contest that HDO is running with War of the Ring--but they're running both of them separately, meaning that you can enter both and have double chances of winning. |

| Poster contest?; Pirates of the Caribbean booty |
Sunday, April 06, 2003 @ 9:02 AM |
Screencaps! Wallpaper! I'm awash with pirates right now. Just saw the Pirates of the Caribbean trailer on TV--it still cracks me up every single time I see it ("Cruel, demented, vicious pirates, to be certain..." ). You can download it at JoBlo.com, and I've got my 220+ screencaps here , which are also being hosted over at Orlando Multimedia. Also sat up and made some Pirates desktop wallpaper last night (pictured above), just because I like messing around with this stuff.
About the contest: Here's the thing. We haven't got it straightened out yet, but a movie memorabilia site (name withheld here for the moment) got in touch with me and asked if we'd like to run a contest with them. The prize is a Two Towers teaser poster (the first poster, with just the towers on it). The site hasn't gotten back to me yet on how you enter the contest and what all that entails (probably just filling out a form), but I'm curious to know what y'all think of that poster as a prize. Is a TTT teaser poster something you'd want to win?
The bottom line is, however, that if this contest goes well, the site is willing to run more with us--"every couple of weeks or so," I believe the rep said, so I might be able to work them up to some really cool stuff. What do you guys think? Would you be willing to enter? |

| 229 screencaps for new (full) Pirates/Caribbean trailer |
Friday, April 04, 2003 @ 10:04 PM |
| Man, I've been up since five am capping the newer version of the trailer. Why? Because I am obviously out of my mind. (Well, ostensibly, it's because we at the Digest like to give the people what they want. COMPLETELY OUT OF MY MIND.) So there's like 12 pages of this stuff, I am serious. Oh, and even some kissy-face Orlando. |

| Pirates of the Caribbean trailer screen caps! |
Friday, April 04, 2003 @ 3:22 AM |
Pirates of the Caribbean screen caps! More when I get back this evening.
10:00 PM. Just got back from dinner and a movie (Spirited Away--great movie, although I think I personally liked Princess Mononoke more) and some window-shopping with my roommate from college. I wasn't clear about "more when I get back"--not more screen caps per se, because I think 70 or so is enough for anyone (maybe not...), but just that I was going to add that the full-length trailer (2-1/2 minutes!) is going to be on TV Sunday night at 7:15. What channel? Well, they're doing this unprecedented "roadblock" thing where it'll air simultaneously on all Disney-owned channels: ABC, Disney Channel, ABC Family, ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPNews, ESPN Classic, SOAPnet, Lifetime, Lifetime Movie Network, Lifetime Real Women, A&E, The History Channel, and E!. Read more about it here. |

| LOTR news at the Digest |
Tuesday, April 01, 2003 @ 5:33 AM |
Well, I've finally updated the main news page, after more than a week (the Oscar page just about wore me out, honestly). And there's even some Lord of the Rings news!
- TheOneRing.net has a terrible April Fool's joke going on their main page today. (Yes, ROTK is still coming out on December 17. Everybody chill.)
- Ain't It Cool News has a Minas Morgul sketch up.
- TheOneRing.net also has some Minas Morgul screen caps from a behind-the-scenes video.
- Peter Jackson's doing King Kong for real, it looks like--it'll come out in 2005 and there's some conceptual art under "New Images" from Counting Down.
- The Pirates of the Caribbean trailer is coming out on Yahoo Movies on April 6.
- Elijah Wood's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is coming out on November 14.
- Turns out Sienna Guillory's not in the Orlando Bloom Troy--she's in the USA network miniseries.
And of course that's just the LOTR-related news. Quite a few Matrix items came up as well, but there's tons of news, and I'm probably going to have to do another news update tonight to cover all the things I missed yesterday. (And, uh, all last week. Man, I had such a good streak for the last month!)
Just to finish up: You know, I read a lot of you guys' journals where you talk about being bored. I am always in need of help, if you have a movie you'd like to review or a magazine with movie articles/interviews/news you can list off for the magazine section... And you'll always get thanked by name on whatever you contribute, so let me know if you want to chip in. |

| TTT deleted scenes and Arwen's wedding dress update |
Sunday, March 30, 2003 @ 11:59 PM |
Man, I finally found that standee with Arwen's wedding dress on it--it's been at Lovely Liv Tyler (one of my affiliates! For cripes' sake!) all this time. (You can read more about the dress from a seamstress' perspective at Alley Cat Scratch.)
In other news, I've updated the Two Towers DVD/deleted scenes page--y'all may have already seen this stuff, but I felt like doing a little housekeeping. Included: 2 new pictures of Pippin and the Ent Draught, some Arwen at Helm's Deep (including some pictures that TheOneRing.net apparently got from CoE), and a merchandise shot of Eowyn in the caves at Helm's Deep.
In more personal, journal-type news: I've seen my sister and her best friend off to the beach, and my $5 vacation begins now--no class until next Tuesday. Sweet. I'm gonna go lay out by the (icy cold) pool and catch up on my reading. |

| Does Orlando have his Helen? (With pic) |
Sunday, March 30, 2003 @ 9:11 PM |
Well, now, I don't know about this. I think I'd heard Claire Forlani's name tossed around for so long that she's stuck in my head. At any rate, I found an article on Fametracker last night claiming that Sienna Guillory (The Time Machine ) has been chosen to play Helen in the upcoming Troy. (As a lot of you know, not only is Orlando Bloom playing Paris, the prince who runs off with Helen, but Sean Bean is playing Odysseus.) So, what do you guys think?
ETA (3/31/03): The article linked up there is quite clear about Sienna being in the Orlando movie. However, the Fametracker folks are saying that the article may just be wrong, and that Sienna is actually going to be in a miniseries version. So you called it, cosmik. |

| More new pics |
Saturday, March 29, 2003 @ 8:56 PM |
Well, here's what I've rounded up, anyway:
>> Minas Morgul sketch from The Art of the Two Towers
>> More from the book: sketches of Arwen's Helm's Deep armor
>> Her involvement was eventually written out, although it was filmed. Also, that's not the armor she ended up with. How do I know? Well, see for yourself.
>> This freaky fan art illustration of Shelob
>> We've also had a reader debunk a picture of the Mouth of Sauron for us--it's very widespread, bluish tone to it, you know the one? Turns out it's from Dark City, which actor Bruce Spence was also in. We've got a picture of the real MoS, but it's just a behind-the-scenes putting-on-makeup pic, nothing very great.
>> New paintings from one of my favorite Tolkien artists, Anke Katrin Eiszman (an Eowyn/Faramir and the death of Boromir)
If anyone finds anything else new, let me know--you'll get full finder's credit over at the Digest. I'm particularly interested in finding Arwen and Eowyn pictures (I have a costume fixation, what can I say?)--the best one I've found so far is Arwen's coronation/wedding dress, but I lost it in a computer crash. All I've been able to find since is a cropped version--her face and crown. It came from a standee that New Line was selling circa FOTR, so if you know the one I'm talking about--Arwen in a greenish-yellow dress? That's the one. You know where to find me. |

| New wallpaper; trying to update |
Friday, March 28, 2003 @ 5:29 AM |
At least our new wallpaper is being featured at Endor Dreams, which is really nice (we're mostly on the Misc page--the wallpapers that link back to Daily Digest), because I'm having a really terrible couple of days here. I'm finally off for break--my last class was Thursday--but I haven't had any sleep and last night when I finally curled up to get some I had terrible nightmares all night. Nice.
Desperately trying to catch up on five days of movie news for the Newstracker, and I'm so tired. I've said it before, I'll say it again: I need a five-dollar vacation. And some new people to write reviews for me. (Seriously, yell if you'd like to write reviews.) |

| Just for fun: The Two Tickets |
Thursday, March 27, 2003 @ 9:44 AM |
An excerpt from something I wrote a while back to memorialize my experience seeing Two Towers on opening night. In the busiest theater in town. Because I am stupid. (Warning: I just checked the original piece for cusswords, and there are three total, I think, and not very bad, and all at the beginning. Just wanted to keep in accordance with the journal rules' PG rating.)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Tickets
And then, out in the darkness of the falling night, we saw their ghostly lights approaching: the headlights of the eight o'clock moviegoers in the parking lot, come early to secure their places in a line that was already crushed against the closed glass doors. We froze where we stood, our voices falling into silence, as the lights began to circle the lot, looking for parking places already taken up by the seven o'clock crowd and not yet vacated by the 3:30.
"Sir! Old Navy has come!"
TRISH, read their leader's name tag. "In times of old you stood beside us during the Day After Thanksgiving Sale," said TRISH soberly. "We will not let the Summit Carmike fall."
They put them behind the cash registers at the ticket booths, the snack bars, and the drink fountains, so that the Carmike employees, new hires and veterans alike, armed with their colors and their name tags, could guide the refugee moviegoers crowded uneasily in the lobby to safety.
"I'm going, then," said the manager. "Look for me in the east in the golf carts of the security guards." He was a brave man, that manager.
He tried to calm the crowd outside as he slipped out through the employee entrance, but they would have none of it. The last I saw of him as the crowd began to pound the doors, he was sprinting down the sidewalk towards the Summit shuttle bus. And outside the war cry of the eight o'clocks, denied entrance, went up like a great howl of rage: "WE BOUGHT OUR TICKETS ON FANDANGO!"
Read the rest here. |

| New wallpaper |
Wednesday, March 26, 2003 @ 2:22 AM |
I've liked CoE for a while, but only just today started an account. At any rate, I've had a morning off and so have been making more TTT wallpaper for the Oscar-Winning Wallpaper page of our site--we had several before, but I had a few people email me and ask where were the Ents, Gollum, etc. So I'll be adding more all today and possibly tomorrow. (The wp pictured is on the FOTR wallpaper page.)
While we're on the topic, I'm looking for some good artists (i.e., better than me, because I can't do jack in photoshop--a tidy collage or a well-chosen, resized shot are about the extent of my abilities), so if you'd like to contribute to the Digest, let me know. Because I use them as promotional freebies, I'd want the name of the movie/studio/Digest on them, but the artist's name would go as well.
So this is basically what I'm going to use my journal for--LOTR-related Daily Digest updates and random LOTR musings--sort of like if my blog were LOTR-only. |
