Book Club- Bilbo meets Elves

In our ongoing discussion of ‘The Hobbit’ the book club is , this week , moving on to chapter III, ‘ A Short Rest’. This chapter concerns the arrival of Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin, and company in Rivendell and their meeting with Elrond.

Happy Birthday, Peter Jackson

Today, October 31st, is Peter Jackson’s birthday. He was born in Pukerua Bay, North Island, New Zealand in 1961 and is 45 years old today. You can read his crew bio here.

Two Hobbit films?

MGM and New Line Cinema may be planning two Hobbit films, according to MGM chief operating officer, Rick Sands who has also said that Peter Jackson would be their first choice to direct the movies. You can read more at IGN.

New Collector’s Figure: Faramir

Sideshow Weta has announced in a recent podcast that its next 12-inch figure will be Faramir. The podcast, which contains further information, can be downloaded here. Details are expected on the Sideshow Weta website soon.

Lord of the Rings: The White Council

Lord of the Rings: The White Council is a new game from EA scheduled to be released late 2007 and is set before the time period of LotR. There’s further information at the official website.

‘We’ve got to kill a hobbit”

Times Online has an extract from Brian Sibley’s forthcoming biography on Peter Jackson. The extract reveals details of Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh’s initial meetings with Miramax in which one of the suggestions made to them was, “we’ve really got to kill one of those hobbits”.

Book Club continuing in its discussion of ‘The Hobbit’

This week, the CoE Book Club has moved on to Chapter II, ‘Roast Mutton’, in its discussion of ‘The Hobbit’. We remind you that everyone should feel free to pick up the book at any time and add to the comments on any chapter.

Tolkien and Terror?

On October 26th, Tolkien scholar Dr Ralph Wood will appear at the University of North Carolina Greensboro and give a lecture titled “J.R.R. Tolkien: Writer for Our Time of Terror.” You can view more information about the lecture here.
