The Vala Lórien

Irmo the younger is the master of visions and dreams. In Lórien are his gardens in the land of the Valar, and they are the fairest of all places in the world, filled with many spirits. Estë the gentle, healer of hurts and of weariness, is his spouse. Grey is her raiment; and rest is her gift. She walks not by day, but sleeps upon an island in the tree-shadowed lake of Lórellin. From the fountains of Irmo and Estë all those who dwell in Valinor draw refreshment; and often the Valar come themselves to Lórien and there find repose and easing of the burden of Arda. from the Valaquenta, The Silmarillion

¤ Lórien takes his name from his gardens in Valinor, but his true name is Irmo. ¤ The name Lórien means "God of Dreams," or "Garden of dreams." ¤ He is one of the two Fëanturi, the Masters of Spirits. His elder brother, Mandos, dwells in the Halls of Waiting. ¤ Lórien's spouse is Estë the Gentle Healer. ¤ Lórellin is the shaded lake in the gardens, where Estë sleeps each day. ¤ Melian, the Maian mother of Luthien, also dwelt in Lórien when not in Middle-earth. ¤ The Gardens are the fairest places in all the world, and all the Valar go there to find refreshment and peace. ¤ The Maia Olórin, or Gandalf the Grey, as he was later known in Middle-earth resided in the Gardens of Lórien, and was tutored by Irmo (although he also visited the house of Nienna).

Charter for the Realm of Lórien

Traits that Members of the Realm of Lórien are known for: ~ loving gardens and trees ~ seeking out peace ~ helping others on their quest for peace ~ finding pleasure in beautiful things ~ desiring things to be fair for the the benefit of all ~ taking an interest in the mystical ~ finding pleasure in both the dawn and the sunset.

Realm Activities: ~ Growing your own plants ~ Keeping "Dream Diaries" and learning about Dream Interpretation ~ Finding ways of gaining inner peace, and helping others to find this same rest. ~ Studying ancient cultures ~ Reading books focused on the realm's traits in the Lorien Book Club (currently reading Peter Pan) ~ The Council of Entwives: an inter-realm environmental project ~ Meeting other Lorien and/or other realm members with a penpal ~ Making our own realm newsletter ~ Telling ghost stories

The good of the Council of Elrond is what we all strive for, first and foremost. The Realms are intended to provide a means for interaction between people on the site, to have fun, and to help build the community. In that spirit, there will be no aggressive or untoward competitiveness between Realms, namecalling, or otherwise inappropriate or divisive behavior allowed.

You may not do both. You also may not put down other Realms, or boast about your Realm being the best. All normal site and forum rules apply to the Realms. Anyone found breaking the aforementioned rules will cause their Realm to lose points, and face the possibility of being kicked out of their Realm. The following actions can get you kicked out of a Realm:- breaking the rules on regular basis, - starting a fight, either with internal Realm members, or members of another Realm - being rude or offensive to any other Realm member - ignoring requests to follow the rules - excessive negativity - anything else that might disrupt the Realm environment or make other members feel uncomfortable

The Admin of the Realm makes the final decision about kicking people from the Realm.

Choose your Realm carefully. We ask that you do not keep switching Realms. If you decide that you want to leave then please talk to the Realm head. There are two leaders underneath the Admin of the Realm. One is appointed, one is elected, and both serve 3 month terms. They may not serve more than 2 total terms. Leaders may be removed at the behest of the Admin for the following reasons: - neglecting their duties - not getting things done in a timely fashion - trying to take the Realm into a place not consistent with its purpose - flaunting authority - bragging about their 'leader' status - Giving special treatment to their friends - favoritism - discouraging members from joining other realms As a Realm leader they should be an example of working 'together' with realms, and they should be people with the attitude of "the good of the Council" at all times.

Thank you, mr_weewee, for helping to make Lorien great!Lorien's brand new theater is putting on a production of its first play- Sleeping Beauty. We need a King! May 18, 2005Happy May! This month is a bit of a slow month for the realm, but we still have lots going on! Our Middle-earth Shoppe is ready for business! This is your one stop shop for anything you could ever want. If you need something to wear to our Spring Fling Ball, then this is the place to look! We have also begun our search for treasure in the Middle-earth treasure hunt. Who knows what we could find... For all of you gardeners out there, we're beginning to put together our Lorien themed garden for the LHH. Please post any ideas that you have.~tla

February 27, 2005Wow, it's almost March already! Here's some of what's going on in the wonderful realm of Lórien...

• Work on the April edition of the Council Courier has begun! The October edition was a big success and so now we're doing one for spring. Details on our genius, exciting plans are in the gardens.

• Lots of new games in the Fun & Games forum!
  • Guilty Fans: Are you an obsessed LotR fan? Confess!
  • Caption Game: A new LotR image will be posted weekly. Be sure to come add a funny little, comment, phrase, or anything else goofy.
  • These aren't new, but our Pie war and ice cream parlor are loads of fun! The more participating, the merrier. :D
  • Candy heart scavenger hunt: Yup, still doing this. Can you find all the yummy candies?
• We're also reading Peter Panin the Book Club. It's not too late to start reading with everyone else!So come one and all and check out all of our fun activities! ~tla February 14, 2005The hunt for candy hearts has begun!   February 7, 2005Happy February, everyone! This is a very busy and exciting month for the realm. So many things to do and so little time! We have just began reading Peter Panin the book club. The discussion is going great so far! :D Our Mystic Flavors Ice Cream Parlor has officially opened in the Fun & Games forum. Come have some ice cream with us and celebrate special events. There's lots of them coming up! They include Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day. We have tons of things planned for these events, so be sure to stop by the forum on the 9th and the 14th to join the fun. A discussion of true love is already up in the Gardens and we're busily decorating the ice cream parlor for the New Year. Hope to see many of you there! :D~tla

  December 27, 2004Congrats to mr_weewee, our realm elected leader! She'll be joining Lady_Jennifer and myself in our brilliant schemes. The next election will take place in March. So the more active you are in the realm, the better chance you have at becoming a leader. *hint hint*~tla
