Ingredients

4 cups whole wheat flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
¼ cup. butter
1¼ cup raisins or currants (If you use currants, add about 1 ½ cup as they are less plump)
1 egg, beaten
1¾ cups buttermilk or 1½ cups plain yogurt plus ¼ cup milk
1 tbsp. honey or molasses

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375F.

Combine flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Cut in butter until it reaches a coarse meal consistency. Add raisins or currants.

Combine liquids separately. Add to dry ingredients. Mix until soft dough forms.

Knead gently until smooth (about 3 minutes). Shape into small loaves. Using a sharp knife, cut an X on the top of each.

Place on greased cookie sheet and bake in preheated oven for 35 minutes. Cool on rack and serve.

All Dwarfkind will sing your praises.
