Description: Despite lacking magical properties, these "lembas" travel well, have a simple goodness, and taste better!! I suggest making a double batch if serving them at a Council.

Very delicious indeed.
Absolutely delightful! “Praise the halfling! Praise her with great praise!” (:
Delicous! All of my guests at the party loved it! I had to go and make another batch!
this is the only recipe i’ve tried so far. for the lousy cook that i am this was really easy! tastes awesome too! rather addictive π
a word of warning though … if you put them on the bottom rack of your oven the bottoms of the wafers will burn
im only 13 and ive been lookin at lots of recipies.Alot of them say one of the ingredients is shortening. What is it??
WONDERFUL!!! I made it for a Life Skills prject, it was easy, delicious, and are just like lembas bread i emagine!
mame was wondering what shortening is;
shortning is Crisco, if you are familiar with the brand. It’s alot like margarine, in that it is solid, but easy to melt, and soft.
these are sooooo good. I normally hate honey so I was a bit nervous when I saw how much honey was in them but when they came out of the oven they were soo yummy. Plus, they really do fill you up, just like I’d imagine the elvish ones would. A perfect 10 for this recipe, well done!
this is a sweet recipe. gonna make for the Friends Feast at my school Wednesday (a special thing we are doing for Thanksgiving)
Wow! I was Experamenting for my SEE ROTK LOTR party and they came out much better then I expected! My highest praise!
(sorry about the spelling.)
These are some pretty good cookies. I’ll be making them in a little while for a LotR party we’ll be having, and these’ll be the main dish (if you can call ’em that). I’ve made ’em before, and they are really good.
I thought these were really good, and filling. My parents don’t quite get the concept of lembas and they put cinnamon and sugar on the top so they taste like snickerdoodle cookies. I think they’re just fine plain.
These are absolutely wonderful. They have a light taste but are very filling. I am completely cooking impaired, but I managed these quite easily with extraordinarily good results.
Wow this stuff is absolutely amazing! Make sure you give it a chance though. When i first tasted the finish product I was like ugh…I hate this, but after a few more bites it was absolutely delicious! It really is filling and quite delicious and addictive π
WOW. these seem to be a hit. i’ve been making these for a LONG time, and i love them. π they really do fill you up, and they are perfect for carrying around in my bag whenever i travel (which is a lot)
GREAT JOB π
Exelent, very true to the book. Vague aftertaste of honey, but even people who hate honeyn should try it, you don’t really taste it. Only one thing to say that isn’t strictly praise: the dough didn’t stick together very well at first, but a tablespoon of milk ammended that. My full recomendation.
Thank you soooo much for this recipe! I enjoyed the lembas bread very much! yum yum! Although at first the dough wouldn’y stick so i added about 1/2 cup of water & another egg. It tourned out very good.
Wow! These were pretty good. I had to cook them a little longer thatn 8 min, before they were done, but their still good.
Hmmm, they sound absolutely dee-lish from all the reviews.
Since I’m an Aussie, I just wanted to clear up a few conversions before I start anything and botch it up.
Is margarine a suitable replacement for shortening (since I don’t know where to get any)?
What is 375 F converted to celcius?
What is 1/4 ” in centimetres?
Thanks for the cool recipe, can’t wait to try it out. ’cause I’m not a big lunch/recess eater (in in 10th Year), these lembas sound like a good replacement!
Thanks a heap!!
Certainly top hole! (It was indeed as filling as I would imagine lembas to be- though my older bother still found a way to eat more than one!) I also added a touch of alond extract to the batter.
This is a great recipe. It’s even better if you add a tsp of orange zest!
Delish! They taste perfect for lembas – not too sweet, and very simple. Excellent recipe!
I love this recipe. I made it and took it to a party and everyone loved it!
Excellent! I really enjoyed this lembas bread with a cup of tea.
Very very good. The directions were esay to follow even for someone like me who can’t boil water. The perfect lembas. Now if only i could find some mallorn leaves…
Very good! I honestly didn’t expect it to come out as good as the did! Very excelent!

this recipe is totally awesome! i just made some and i already ate 2! they are soooooo good. i’m planning on bringing some 2 a friend’s house tomorrow. thanx!
not bad…it could be alittle sweeter. Try more honey or berries to get the desired sweetness. Like I said before…not bad
This lembas recipe turned out very well for me. The bread looked lovely and tasted quite good. It was sweat, but it did end up getting just a tad boring after a few pieces. It needs some zests in my opinion, but overall, it’s a very good recipe for lembas bread.
This is awesome! I’m quite a klutz in the kitchen but this was so easy, and I’m very happy with the results. It just needed alot of extra flour because it was quite sticky, but it really does look like lembas bread, I plan to bring it to a party in a few weeks.
It sounds delicious! When I get the ingredients I’ll make some
It is awesome, my friends all liked and i had fun making it.
Wow, they were really nice. I’m normally a terrible cook, but these were really nice. My little brother got really excited too when he found out he was eating ‘Lembas bread’. It was actually quite filling….
This recipe is perfect!! It is exactly how I imagined Lembas. My brothers even fought over who would get the biggest piece!
Awesome recipe!!!!! The only thing it lacks is the magic quality =)
I found the recipe a little bland and more difficult to make than expected, but still very good. I made a double batch for my brother’s birthday party just now, and I’ll have to wait and see how the guys like them. I owe most of the trouble I had to the fact that I can mess up any kind of recipe, and did so with this. I forgot to add the eggs and shortening until I had combined the wet and dry ingredients. Still, bravo on a very good recipe!
P.S. I also found that these helped my sore throat very much! Maybe the magical value is not really gone…
well i haven’t tried this yet but it sounds great and easy. I read through the reviews and someone said it helped there sore throat, that would be the honey which is supposed to (according to my mother anyway) help when you’re sick. Maybe they’re right and not all it’s “magical” value is gone…
I’m going to try this as soon as I can, which unfortunetly though will be a while as it’s 3:30 in the morning…
shortening is any fat really – butter , margerine or something like crisco π
I have now made this for many parties and everyone is asking me to make it again. I even wrapped the lembas in collard greens sso that they looked more like lembas bread.
Well. I gat to the third step and got stuck. It looks like corn meal, is it suppose to, or is it suppose to look like dough. Besides my being stuck this recipe looks and sounds good. It’s sipple and I like sipple. Please, any bady help me.
i have to say that these really are good. and they fill you up in one bite. i had a few problems with consistency as i needed to add more liquid so a splash of milk helped sort it out. i didnt have enough honey but they still taste really good. even my mum who isnt a huge Tolkien fan enjoyed them (mind you i did just say that they were biscuits not lembas) overall 10 outta 10 best recipe i found so far π
I really love this one! I have made it several times and everyone loves it! Great job!
Absolutely great! My whole family loved them!!!
the wafers turned out really good, but be careful! the honey makes them really filling…I feel like Pippin. I ate too many before I knew what they do to you! but the recipe was great! perfect 10!
oh, and be sure to use the EXACT amount of everything and follow the recipe EXACTLY!!!! these wonderful cookies are just a little touchy, so be warned!
Sound’s absolutely deliscious! It’s hard for mortal’s to get the subtleties of Elvish dainties but you’ve mastered them all!
EXCELENT!! I love this recipie. <(^_^)>
I’ve tried several different recipes for lembas bread, and this is by far my favorite! Simple and sweet…exactly how I imagined it. Thank you for this great recipe. As a hobbit hostess for many a LotR party, I can say that this lembas bread is perfect for all your hunger and ice-breaking needs π
Loved it! 10/10!!! As a failure in the kitchen I can appreciate how easy it was to make! Loved the simpleness and the fact that most people dont know what it is as it is very different then a cookie.
I’ve made this recipe many, many times, and it is still SO delicious!
I would recommend using butter instead of shortening. Shortening is indigestible by the human (or Elven, etc) body, and has been linked to heart disease. Butter is actually good for you!
I LOVED IT! I had to substitute a few ingredients because I was out of Honey and Shortening. So I used Molasis and Butter. Still turned out great but I would like them better with honey. First recipe from COE and now I want more.
Its making me hungry reading these reveiws about them being delicious (no doubt they are). Too bad it’s nightime here and it’s also too bad that I don’t have all the ingredients. I’m starving now.
Oh I just want to ask, what can you use instead of shortening?
Hannad! This bread is wonderful, my entire family are enchanted by them! This is a wonderful recipe that I think my family and I will be making for a long time. Galu.
[…] The Lembas Bread has a hit! It was cute to even hear our little ‘hobbit’ two year old request, “Mo lembas peeze” after he gobbled piece after piece. It was quite the delight of my LOTR loving hubs. Here is the lembas bread recipe used. […]
Yay! I have looked at a lot of recipes for Lembas, but most are just recipes of scones. I will try these as soon as possible, and bring them to school if my minimal cooking skills are good enough.
