Ingredients

1 small head cabbage, shredded
Water sufficient to cover cabbage
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. butter
3 tbs. flour
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheese
Cayenne pepper to taste
1/2 cup fresh breadcrumbs
Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

Preheat oven to 180 C (about 350 F)

Place cabbage in pan and cover with water and salt. Bring to boil and simmer 2 minutes. Drain.

In another pan melt butter and whisk in flour. Blend well and add milk, stirring rapidly. Season with salt and pepper.

Remove from heat and stir in cheese, then cayenne to taste.

Combine cabbage with sauce. Spoon into a buttered casserole dish. Top with breadcrumbs and spot with butter.

Bake 20 minutes or until browned.
