Aetius was abandoned by his mother at birth and raised by a rowdy band of theives and scoudrels, any one of which may have been his father. He was never told his day of birth or even given the year, as no one in the group had bothered to note it. He quesses himself to be in his mid-twenties

After reaching an age where he could provide himself with the basic essentials of life, Aetius left the band, drifting alone from town to town in the general area of the Gondorian Realm. He would only stay in one spot long enough to get himself in trouble, which never took long, and then would move on to another. He often took joy in visiting the same town more than once in various guises dooping the same people over and over.
