He grew up in Esgaroth and married his sweetheart Ellen when he was 20. Two years later they had a daughter, Arisan. They made their home about two miles from Esgaroth, and Andy made his living as a farmer. It was 14 years before Andy and Ellen were able to have another child. Another daughter, Erian. Andy was happy with his life, though he always longed for a son. His dreams came partly true when his oldest daughter married a fisherman from the village. But only three years later his son-in-law was drowned in a storm while fishing on the Long Lake. After that his widowed daughter moved back to the family farm. Once the Blight struck, Andy had trouble supporting his family from the crops he grew—or rather didn’t grow. So he began to take up hunting to supplement their living. But then the animals started to leave. So finally Andy was forced to move his family into the village so they could partake in the daily ration from the Town Pantry.
