Personality: Bellasûl is extremely stubborn. Though she rarely disobeys Halbarad, when she makes up her mind there is no changing it. She’s an extremely dominant horse as well, almost always maintaining her place as lead mare in the group. She can be rather aggressive at times towards other horses, making sure they all know her place in the herd. However, she understands that humans are dominant over her and she doesn’t often try to assert herself over them unless they give her cause.
Appearance: Bellasûl is a tall horse with long legs and a finer look. She’s not overly stocky like a draft, but she has strong muscles and is able to travel great distances bearing a large amount of weight. She has large hooves and a medium-length back. Her hindquarters are big and strong and her joints big. She has a straight head with large nostrils, ears, and eyes. She has a steeper shoulder and steep pelvis. Her neck is thick and medium-length.
In the winter, she grows a thick, rough coat to protect her from the elements of living in the cold north. However, in the summer months nearly all her coat is shed and she is left with a short sleek grey coat. Though there is some dark grey still left on her legs, mostly she has lightened with age.
History:
Bellasûl was bred, raised, and trained by Halbarad. She was bred from the line of horses that Halbarad has always used. Her linage can be traced back to the first horse Halbarad ever rode. Her father was the horse that carried Halbarad to Rohan. Bellasûl has carried Halbarad faithfully around the north as he fulfills his duty of guarding the Shire. However, she has not had yet the chance to do any long distance traveling as her ancestors have done.
When Bellasûl was just a yearling, Aragorn asked Halbarad if he could breed his mare with Bellasûl’s father. And thus, Roheryn is Bellasûl’s younger half-brother.
