Race: Elf
Height: I don't know :)
Age: In 3019 she is 198.
Family: Father: Glorfindel, Mother: Celebriel (sister to Celebrian, wife of Elrond), Brother: Gloroma, Sisters: Celebmir and Glorbelethil.
Animals: A white horse (I think), but I couldn't imagine having anything else - I love white horses!
Weapons: None

Personality: Tanlaithwen has a few special qualities. One of them is that she has the ability to speak many different languages - the only ones she cannot speak are Entish and another one that I can't remember right now but once I do I'll put it here! As her name suggests, she is a craftsmaiden, and she helps her grandmother (Galadriel) make the Elven cloaks of Lothlorien. (That would make her one of the hand-maidens spoken about in the story, I think.) All of the children of Celebriel and Glorfindel are blessed with the "gift of the gab" and can speak in many tongues. Now for Tan specifically. From her grandmother, she has inherited the ability to look into people's minds. In fact, it is said that all (or most) Elves and Wizards have ESP, it's just that some of them don't use it. Tan loves to dance, and she can often be found prancing about in the woods. She can sing well and can play the harp. She is a fairly good shot with a bow and fights in defence, but prefers peace.

Appearance: Well, it goes without saying that she's quite pretty, after all she's an elf. But she's not majorly beautiful like Arwen or anybody. She always wears dresses. The floaty, natural-coloured Lothlorien kind. Hair - strange coloured for an elf, kinda mousey brown (pretty ordinary really), wavy, often left down flowing over her shoulders (it goes down to the middle of her back, or there abouts), but sometimes has those little plaits for special occasions.

History:

Name: Tanlaithwen (I got this off The Barrow Downs Name Translator. I tried to work out what it might mean, but I only came up with a rough idea: “Tano” means craftsman/smither and “wen” means maiden. Not sure what “laith” could come from, but “lalaith” means laughter and “lait-” is a verb root meaning “to praise” so it could mean: praiseworthy craftsmaiden who laughs. Honestly, I don’t like this translation very much; if anyone can come up with a better one please PM me!).

Age: In 3019 (I’m using this year because it is the year the Fellowship came to Lothlorien) Tan is 198. She was born in 2821, Third Age.

Here is a timeline outlining events in Tan’s life that I based on the one in the Appendices of ROTK:

Third Age:

109: Celebrian, daughter of Celeborn and Galadriel, marries Lord Elrond. Celebriel (Celeborn and Galadriel’s second daughter whom I made up by the way) meets Prince Glorfindel of Rivendell briefly at the wedding.
130: Births of Elladan and Elrohir.
241: Birth of Arwen Undomiel.
2504: Between Celebrian’s wedding and this date, Celebriel visited her sister often in Rivendell (Celebriel lived in Lothlorien). During this year, Celebriel met Prince Glorfindel properly again (previously they didn’t meet much).
2505: After the one year engagement customary to Elves, Celebriel marries Glorfindel and goes to live in Rivendell.
2509: Celebrian is injured by Orcs on the way to Lothlorien.
2510: Celebrian departs over the sea.
2522: Gloroma, meaning Golden-voice, only son of Glorfindel and Celebriel born. He is to be skilled in languages of all kinds and deadly with a sword.
2602: Celebmir, meaning Silver-jewel, first daughter of Glorfindel and Celebriel born. She grows up to be as beautiful as the fairest jewel.
2693: Glorbelethil, meaning Golden Divine Radience, second daughter of Celeborn and Celebriel born. She grows up to radiate good, and is an expert healer.
2821: Tanlaithwen (my character) born, last daughter of Celebriel and Glorfindel.
2950: Celebriel, my mother, departs over the sea. Tanlaithwen (my character), goes back to live in Lothlorien with her grandparents, Celeborn and Galadriel.
2951: Arwen, who previously lived in Lothlorien, goes to live in Rivendell. She later returns to Lorien.
2980: Aragorn enters Lorien and there meets Arwen, and Arwen’s cousin Tanlaithwen (li’l old moi).
3009: Elrond sends for Arwen, who returns to Imladris. Glorfindel asks Tanlaithwen to return to Imladris also to be with the rest of the family, but Tan refuses.

What effect does The Fellowship have on Tan’s life? Well, in January 3019, The Fellowship came to Lothlorien and she meets them. The End.
