The Battle of Evermore
What does The Lord of the Rings and Led Zepplin have in common? Well, if you don’t know, you are probably under 40. But there are contemporary musicians all over the world who have also been influenced by Tolkien’s works, says Martin Vengadesan in his article at the Star On-line.

There is one song on the Moody Blues greatest hits album that must be derived from LOTR. It’s called Voices in the Sky and must be about the sea longing of Legolas and the other elves. It has a haunting melody and the lines:
“Just what is happening to me?
I lie awake to the sound of the sea
Calling to me”. Sound familiar?
Does anyone know of similar songs that aren’t mentioned in the article?
One word: NIGHTWISH. need i say more? π bone of the best heavy metal bands, who have a great song called Elvenpath. great song! π I got to sing it for Choir. it was great. π
Yeah i found out about Led and the LOTR thing about 3 weeks ago- so i got one CD- and theres a song called the ‘Misty mountain hop” and one song has these lil hints like ” theres a girl thats sure taht all that glitters is gold” or something but i reckon its heaps kool

The “lady who’s sure all that glitters is gold” is featured in “The Stairway to Heaven”
Also featured in that song are “a feeling I get when I look to the west, and my spirit is crying for leaving”, “Rings of smoke [seen] through the trees” and “the voices of those who stand long” As well as “a new day will dawn for those who stand long and the forests will echo with laughter”, and “as we wind on down the road…there walks a lady we all know, who shines white light”
Coincidince? I don’t think so…
Nicely Done! As a huge Led Zep fan, you hit the nail on the head. Also, in ‘Ramble On’ the sing of “In the darkest Depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair, but Gollum, with his evil walk, crept up and slipped away with her, with her-yeah”
The Mighty Led still rocks hard to this day!
