Alan Lee – US tour schedule

As part of Houghton Mifflin’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the US publication of The Fellowship of the Ring, Alan Lee will be making a series of presentations in which he will discuss his involvement in bringing the visual world of Tolkien to life. The presentations will include a Q&A with fans, slide show, a display of original illustrations and a book signing.

In this short interview at mid-day.com John Rhys-Davies talks about playing the role of Gimli. One of the things he reveals is, “The Lord of the Rings films have had the smartest audience of any film I’ve been in.”

The making of the LotR DVDs

In this two part exclusive interview at Now Playing Magazine, Kevin Miller, one of the LotR DVD producers, talks about the making of the DVDs. He describes how this has been the most challenging and satisfying project he has worked on. “The sheer volume of source material is staggering… the behind-the-scenes videotape material totals the equivalent of over 14 million feet…1,200 hours of interviews, plus almost 90,000 pieces of artwork and still photographs.”

The Holidays are Fast Approaching!

It’s getting to be that time of year again, and we’d like to take a moment to remind everyone about the opportunities on this site to purchase CoE and LotR items for friends and family:

1) There’s a whole bunch of great t-shirts available through CafePress and Zazzle, many of them created by other CoE members for the t-shirt contest. Please take a look, and keep in mind that it’s better to buy these items early, since printing and shipping time can be a while.

2) Don’t forget about the CoE Store. There’s tons of LotR related merchandise available in that section, from several different merchants. Buy your holiday presents through us, and help the site!

All funds from t-shirts and the store are set aside to pay for our monthly server costs.

UK residents – win LotR computer games

For a chance to win copies of both The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth and The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age enter the competition at BBC Teens.

The closing date for the competition is 30th November.

The Lord of the Rings symphony in Fairfax, VA

On 27th, 28th and 29th May 2005 the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra will perform the Washington area premiere of Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings symphony. The performances will also feature the adult and children’s choruses of the Fairfax Choral Society. Further information can be found at the orchestra’s website here.
