Sixth annual Tolkien weekend

The sixth annual Tolkien weekend will take place on 14th and 15th May at Sarehole Recreation Ground and Moseley Bog, Birmingham, UK. Events will include; Tolkien archives, have a go archery, guided walks and bus tours to ‘The Two Towers’. There are further details at birmingham.gov.uk.

Trilogy screening in London, UK

On Friday 18th and Saturday 19th March the bfi London IMAX Cinema will be screening the Lord of the Rings triology. The films will be shown in the original theatrical 35mm versions. There are further details at bfi.org.uk.

Meet the creative team – Weta workshops

On 26th and 27th February, Richard Taylor and Tania Rodger of Weta are holding two workshops at the Lord of the Rings Exhibition, in Sydney, Australia. There are further details about the workshops here.

The LotR symphony in Portland, Oregon

On 17th and 18th September the Oregon Symphony Orchestra will perform the Lord of the Rings symphony by Howard Shore. The performance will be conducted by Alastair Willis and will feature the Portland Symphonic Choir and the Pacific Youth Choir. There are further details at orsymphony.org.

LotR – The Battle for Middle-earth

Two new manuals are now available for the Lord of the Rings – The Battle for Middle-earth game. These deal with how to build a custom multiplayer map and how to use the World Builder tool. There are further details at eagames.com.

Return of the King wins two Grammy Awards

At the recent 47th Grammy Awards, Howard Shore’s score for Return of the King won the award for Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or other Visual Media. Into the West (by Annie Lennox, Howard Shore & Fran Walsh) won the award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or other Visual Media. There are further details at grammy.com.
