Bakshi’s LotR to be Screened in Los Angeles

The ASIFA-Hollywood and American Cinematheque are holding an in-person tribute to Ralph Bakshi, the director and artist that made 1978’s Lord of the Rings. During the three day tribute, being held from Apr. 28 – May 1, there will be screenings of several of Bakshi’s films, with Lord of the Rings being shown on May 1st. This may be one of your few opportunities to see this film on the big screen. More information can be found at the American Cinematheque website.

New Zealand staging of The Hobbit cancelled

A $10 million stage production of The Hobbit in New Zealand has been cancelled after just 10 shows. Poor reviews and ticket sales have forced the show’s Auckland season to be cancelled just five days before its scheduled opening night. Read more about it here.

Fellowship Of The Ring UK TV premier!

The Lord Of The Rings trilogy receives its UK network TV premiere on Channel 4 this Saturday, with The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring being shown at 7.45pm. See here for more details.

Troy University: Lord of the Rings Symposium

Troy University Mythology Symposium is devoted to celebrating and examining the mythic heritage and aspirations of The Lord of the Rings.

This half-day symposium includes paper presentations on the mythic dimensions of The Lord of the Rings. For more information, see their website.

Tolkien Time Capsule

The Gathering of the Fellowship has just announced a fundraising project: The Tolkien Time Capsule is a chance for LOTR fans everywhere round the world to leave something in the capsule until it is opened at a special gathering of the fellowship and ceremony in 25 years time. It will be sealed in another ceremony in 2006 and will be kept safe for another 25 years! Anyone wishing to be part of this should check out the Gathering of the Fellowship’s website.

It takes more than good actors to make a movie. Empire Towers is taking your votes for the top five film directors of all time. You can vote for Peter Jackson and four of your other favorite film directors by selecting the link at their website.

While you’re at it you may also want to vote for LOTR as your favorite soundtrack here. New addition to Elrond’s Library

Elrond’s Library now has a section of the different calendars created by Tolkien – from that of the Shire to those of Númenor. They can be found here, in the Calendars section of Middle-earth.
