Ringers: Lord of the Fans

Ringers: Lord of the Fans, a new documentary produced in association with TheOneRing.net takes a close look at fans who have followed Tolkien throughout years. The cast of various celebrities including Peter Jackson, Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Clive Barker, and David Carradine are featured among the hundreds of Tolkien fans interviewed. Lord of the Rings Symphony

The Lord of the Rings symphony is back by popular demand and arrives in Houston on Friday 8th July and Saturday 9th July at 7:30PM. Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings symphony is to be performed by the Houston Symphony on 8th and 9th July at Jones Hall in Louisiana. Tickets are available at the Houston symphony customer services, by phone and also on their website.

The Fellowship Festival 2005 (UK)

There have been a few updates concerning the Fellowship Festival 2005 in Wembley/UK.

Thomas Robins (Deagol) will host a workshop for fans interested in directing their own films (among other things), Weta’s Conceptual Designer Daniel Falconer will give us a great insight in to the creatures, costumes and weaponry of Middle Earth and Sandro Kopp (Gildor) and Jed Brophy (Sharku/Snaga/stunts) will also be attending. Not only will Jed be treating us to some new stunt and swordplay direct from the films, he will also be entertaining us all with his vocal talents at The Fellowship Feast. Sandro will be sharing his very considerable artistic talents with us at a workshop and hopefully we can persuade him to join Jed at the mic! Richard Taylor and his wife Tania Rodger will also attend the FF.

Humor News and Banner Contest!

The Humor Section is currently holding a Banner Design Contest for the Celeborn’s Karaoke page! We’re looking for a great new banner to display, and are eagerly waiting to see what brilliant banners members come up with! If you’d like to participate in the contest, check out this thread for details and more info.

In other Humor Section news, the Humor Admins are no longer accepting submissions for Haldir’s Pretty Pictures in order to concentrate on opening new humor sections.

Andy Serkis celebrates his 41st birthday today! Andy was born on the 20th of April, 1964, in Ruslip Manor, England.

Pippin’s Recipe Box

Pippin’s Recipe Box has been updated and now you will be able to see at a glance if any recipe in any of the sections is suitable for vegetarians. The titles of all suitable recipes have been marked with this sign (V).

The Hobbit premiere

The world premiere of the theatrical version of The Hobbit took place in Wellington, New Zealand, on 16th April. Christine Anketell, spent 8 months developing the script and one challenge she faced was that contractually she was not allowed to copy anything from the LotR movies. The show will now tour New Zealand before heading for Australia in June. There are further details of tour dates and the production at the official website.

Sound editing to rule them all

Scoop report on some innovative sound editing software that has been developed by New Zealand company Virtual Katy. The basic version of this software was originally developed to deal with the huge job of sound editing the LotR movies.

A Room with a View

Broadcast earlier today, the BBC Radio 4 programme “Room with a View” features the Oxford study where JRR Tolkien wrote The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

For a period of a week you can hear the programme on the Listen Again feature at BBC Radio 4.
