We’re happy to present the “CoE Site-Theme” contest! Ringhilwen and Veaglarwen are always busy cooking up new ideas, but they also get inundated with requests for theme ideas and suggestions. We want to give you all a chance to make a site theme that CoE members can use!

A loan for Lord of the Rings

The Ontario government have made a near $3 million loan to the stage version of the LotR. The production is due to open in Toronto in February 2006. Tourism minister for Ontario, Jim Bradley stated that the production, “would draw in as much as $700 million in revenues for the province’s tourism industry”. You can read the full story at mytelus.

Alan Lee book tour

From 22nd October to 30th October Alan Lee will be visiting a number of US cities signing copies of his forthcoming book The Lord of the Rings Sketchbook. This book contains pencil sketches made by Alan Lee whilst working on the LotR movie trilogy. There are details of his schedule at Ain’t it Cool News.

Take the Tolkien trail

On 30th October, from 11.30am to 4pm, there will be a free bus tour of some of the places around Birmingham, UK, that served as inspiration for JRR Tolkien. There are further details about this event, including how to reserve a place, at the Tolkien Society website.

Lord of the Brush

Lord of the Brush, a film about artist John Howe, is to be shown at the Fantasy Worldwide Film Festival. The festival runs from 4th to 6th November and will be held in Toronto, Canada.

In addition there will be a further TV screening of the film on 20th November on Bravo Canada at 8pm (Eastern time). There’s further information about these events here.

Book Club Reads ‘Unfinished Tales’

Yes, yes, ladies and gentlemen, everyone’s favourite moderator is back, with a big book under her arm and weeks and weeks of Tolkien-related discussions looming behind the ever-approaching horizon! Because this week CoE’s Book Club starts reading and discussing ‘Unfinished Tales’.

LotR exhibit in Indiana

First, it happened in New Zealand; second, it was exposed to the US and the rest of the world. Now, another LotR exhibit can be seen in Indiana State Museum through until January. The exhibit, which began on 6th October, displays props from the trilogy and includes discussion about the new digital effects that have been used by the movie trilogy itself.
