PJ and The Hobbit
IGN.com report that Peter Jackson is still interested in making a film version of The Hobbit and in addition Alan Lee would like to be involved in the concept artwork. However, before a film can be made there are legal issues to be resolved as both New Line and Sony each own half the film rights.

I’d love to a see a The Hobbit movie. I’m in the middle of the book right now, I’d love to see how ol’ PJ would pertray some of the scenes from the book. Only problem would be that he’d have to have the same actor for Bilbo and Gandalf as he had in LOTR. Why does New Line and Sony own half?
That should be interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing it, if it ever comes out.
Oh so cool. I wish and hope they make THE HOBBIT movie.
YAY! This is indeed good new to me! I just wanted to hear he was still interested…because I somehow heard that he wanted to retire! That would be terrible if The Hobbit was made by someone else.
Yes…he most certainly has to mke Ian Holm and Ian McKellen Bilbo & Gandalf. He better hurry up. They aren’t getting younger! lol =-D I just pray that it all works out!
Oh, I hope this turn out well. I doubt anyone else could do it like PJ, and it’s great that Alan Lee wants to be involved too. They’re such a great team!
omg I so wanna see the hobbit. I wrote a paper in english class on how the Hobbit should be a movie, it was fun.
I really hope i would do the hobbit.. If he desides to do so, ill be on a plane to wellington. Me be hobbit – Me be elf.
I SO HOPE there will be a Peter Jackson version of the hobbit!!!!! I love that book!

Well, at least there is still hope. Man, I hope the legal issues get settled soon. I’d really like to see The Hobbit as a live-action movie in the theatres!
Well, lets hope they get it all worked out because Ian still wants to be Gandalf and hopefully Hugo will be Elrond! Love those eyebrows! With all the money made and still being made from the DVDs and still toys, they would want to make this movie and soon. We all still have to wait. More Hobbit toys! Still so much more, maybe even The Silmarillion? One can always hope for more Tolkien.

Personally, I’m a little wary about a hobbit movie… I adore PJ (his movies were what got me into LOTR, and now I’ve read everything Tolkien that exists…) and thus trust him completely, it’s just that the Hobbit is such a different sort of story than the trilogy. It’s much more childlike – not as historical a feel as LOTR, and thus has to be approached in a different way. As a director, I’m sure PJ knows this, I just don’t know if it would go over as well for the audience. Secondly, the Hobbit is less diverse in characters than LOTR trilogy, and though I love dwarves, a movie full of them would be difficult. After all, you want conflicting character personalities in movies (that’s why people like Luke Skywalker and Han Solo work so well together), and a party full of grumpy, drinking dwarves might be a bit wearing on an audience member who isn’t a die-hard fan of the book. I suppose what I’m saying is that what works in a book is very different than what will work in a film… but I trust PJ could handle it, just as he did with LOTR. We’ll just have to wait and see!
I would like a film to be made. But I also agree with the coments by KaimelarFalmarin.
I’d love a hobbit movie, i hope he get’s Ian mckellen, Ian Holm, and Andy Serkis back it wouldn’t be the same without them!
That would be awsome! I hope they do make The Hobbit a movie and that Peter Jackson directs it!
Of course Ian Holm, Ian McKellen, and Hugo Weaving would be in it, and they did manage to make Holm look younger for the scene in the prologue, didn’t they? Andy Serkis would probably be back too. Hopefully, they’ll get the legal issues resolved soon and make the movie. And, as for the idea of a Silmarillion movie: it ain’t gonna happen.
wow i am really excited at the thought of The Hobbit being made into a film I’d probably go and see it like 20 times (slight exaggeration but hey…) great prospect anway!
Please make The Hobbit!
I really, really hope PJ makes The Hobbit. LotR had such a good response from most people, I think, that it would be a smart move to make The Hobbit… but without Andy Serkis, Ian Holm, and Ian McKellen, it just wouldn’t be the same. Come on, PJ! Dazzle us again!
