Peter Jackson to produce ‘The Hobbit’
New Line Cinema and MGM Studios have announced today that they have reached an agreement with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh to executive produce a film version of ‘The Hobbit’. A director has yet to be named, but it has been confirmed that there will be two films, shot simultaneously: ‘The Hobbit’ and a sequel; filming is expected to begin in 2009, with the films slated to be released in 2010 and 2011 respectively. It was also announced that the legal dispute between Jackson and New Line over earnings from the LotR trilogy, which had put Jackson’s involvement with the project in doubt, has been resolved. So it is going to happen then… finally 😀 *does a happy dance*
Yess!!!! This is great. My only question: why a squel?
finally!!!!! but whats with the sequal?
Wonderful, marvelous. But what sequel. I wonder what that’s about.
The sequel is just a movie that shows how The Hobbit ties in with The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
yay! I’m excited!!
But I also wonder why they’re making two movies of The Hobbit too?
Finally. It took them long enough!
But OMGOMGOMG TWO MOVIES!
Oh my gosh! I need to go over to NZ then, lol! I must be an extra in the film….at least in my dreams.
Anyway, I’m so happy! Finally a decision!
ah! very interesting…it took them long enough!
Yes!Yes!Yes! Finally they are going to do it! When I read this headline I shouted so loud the whole house could hear me.
So exciting! We’re discussing this in the Movies Forum – check out the sticky post at the top called, “The Hobbit Movie,” and go to the last page to join in on the discussions! Any questions or comments can be posted in there too.
I’m so glad they resolved their dispute… things are looking up for us Ringers!
First, I was like, “AWESOME!!!” Then I read that there will be a sequel, and I thought, “Oh, no.” Sequels are risky, and can hurt the franchise if they don’t live up to the original’s expectations. But they’re to be filmed silmultaneously, like the other LOTR films, so maybe it won’t be so bad. PJ’s got a big task ahead of him.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOO YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lord of the Rings will make a HUUUGGEE comeback and Harry potter will be left in the dust. mwaaahahaahahahahahaha. im gonna get allllll my friends totally into lotr
AWESOME. I’m so excited. =D
Hurray! Wohooo! They’ve finally dicided! Wohooo!
This is great news!!:D I cannot wait till watching it, and reading more about it!
And that sequel sounds… interesting:P
Wow! Exciting!
I hope that it rocks as much as I’m hoping!
This is wonderful news! I’m sooo excited! 2010 can’t come soon enough… but now I have two more movies to look forward to!!
Yes, yes. Jumping for joy, jumping for joy. Finally, why took it so long. Now we just have to wait a few years. Yes, yes!!!
Yes! Finally! Oh, it’s a glorious day for Ringies everywhere! 😀 😀
Okay guys, I don’t know if this is true or just a rumour, but this is what I’ve heard about the ‘sequel’. I heard it would be some of the Appendices from RotK, for example the love story between Aragorn and Arwen. I guess they wanted to show what happened between The Hobbit and LotR.
I absolutely can’t wait for the Hobbit! And I can’t wait to see if there is indeed a sequel! Just drooling thinking about it! LOL
I’m so excited already I can hardly sleep. Three year wait begins, but I don’t care. I do hope that adventually Peter Jackson will be named director. That would make this Christmas present complete to know he is full charge.
It’s about time!! I think he must’ve listened to all those death threats he got from m- uh, I mean, other people. He he he.
I really don’t care what the “sequel” is. I don’t think it will be one that we will recognise I think it will be more of a history maybe based on the Sil. I hope I live long enough!!!!!
YES!!! They’ve decided! The wait is over!!! And now one other three-year wait. Yay.
