Mortensen and ‘The Hobbit’
In an interview with TotalFilm.com, Viggo Mortensen talks about the Hobbit movies, director Guillermo del Toro, and the previous “Lord of the Rings” movies.
In talking about reprising his role as Aragorn, Mortensen says: “I’d rather finish the job myself than have another actor do it,” says Mortensen. “I’m interested in principle, but I’d want to see it done in the right spirit of Tolkien.”

OHHH that is sooo cool!!! Viggo is the best Aragorn ever!!!
Viggo makes a fantastic Aragorn. That said, he does NOT belong in this movie because at the time of the Quest of Erebor, Aragorn was only ten years old. Artistic license is a wonderful thing, but this is just ridiculous.
i agree with you Itarilde. Viggo is awsome, but Aragorn just simply does not fit in this storyline! It IS ridiculous!
I definitely agree that Aragorn’s role in this new Hobbit movie doesn’t really…fit with what Tolkien had in mind. That being said, Arwen certainly had somewhat of a fabricated role in the LOTR – she stold Glorfindel’s horse! 🙂 I’m sure they want Viggo back on principle – audiences like watching him, and he’s a familiar character in a host of new, unfamiliar faces. Should be a great movie, anyway!
