Cate Blanchett Back as Galadriel
EW.com is reporting that Cate Blanchett will be joining the cast of The Hobbit. They have also confirmed Sylvester McCoy as Radagast, and mentions the casting of a few of the dwarves as well.
Still no official word on Ian McKellan, although his official website does state that he will part of filming.

Wow! I didn’t expect Drogo to pop up, that’s fantastic! And I’m glad they finally have a part for the mysterious Beorn.
Lily
It seems we have an answer as to what they’ll do about the shortage of female roles 😛 Apparently, the Dol Guldur enterprise is going to take place, presumably in Part 2…
we’re almost definitely getting the White Council then I guess
so exciting!
Awesome! We’re going to get the White Council apparently! And what about Drogo… What would they do with him?
Yes! We have Galadriel! *happy dance*
There’s only one reason to have Cate Blanchett in the movie – PJ is going to run 2 separate stories, just like the Frodo/Sam & Aragron/Gimli/Legolas stories in LOTR. My gut tells me that he flips back and forth between the dwarves and Bilbo on one hand, and Gandalf and the White Council on the other. Remember that many of the key scenes with the dwarves don’t have Gandalf – all of the scenes in the mountain with the Goblin King, the spiders and Thranduil in Mirkwood, etc. Doing it this way will allow a nice dovetail into the Fellowship of the Ring, i.e. that the White Council tried to move against the “Necromancer” in Dol Guldur, and rove him off, only to realize that it was Sauron. Tha biggest oproblem with doing this, and unfortunately what could be one of the coolest things in the story, is the corruption of Saruman from head of the white council to what he becomes in the LOTR . . .
She IS Galadriel!
She made a perfect Galadriel in the movie, so I’m definitely glad to have her back. Anyone else in the part would have felt strange and not even close.
