Ian McKellen has confirmed on his official website that he will be playing Gandalf in The Hobbit movies. He wrote that his; “worry that I could not easily escape from Middle Earth was lifted” and that filming starts in New Zealand on 21st February.
It’s not yet officially confirmed but Deadline report that Andy Serkis will be returning to play Gollum in The Hobbit movies.
Other actors also reported to be in negotiation are; Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Christopher Lee in (Saruman) and Ian Holm (as an older version of Bilbo Baggins)
Rumors that Elijah Wood is to reprise the role of Frodo in The Hobbit movies have been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Variety report that Warner Bros. has officially taken over international distribution and home video on the The Hobbit films from MGM Studios.
According to reports on the web, Elijah Wood, who played Frodo Baggins in Jackson’s three-part version of Tolkien’s later tome, is in talks to join the cast of the new film, The Guardian reports. It is being suggested that Frodo will appear in a framing device for Jackson’s film, reading from a book telling the story of The Hobbit in order to place it in the same filmic universe as The Lord of the Rings.
