Lord of the Rings films return to cinemas
Couldn’t get enough of the LotR movies the first time around? Another chance is coming up including almost three additional hours of filming. The extra footage was selected under the supervision of Peter Jackson and at the start of each film there is a personal introduction from him. There’s further information here.

Wait, wait wait. This extra footage… is it above and beyond the current “extended” cuts? Because that would just be too good to be true. So it can’t be… can it?
Huh? I don’t really understand. They’re making another extended cut now? As if the extended editions, special edition, and now this edition isn’t enough? Milk it for all it’s worth huh? I’m a bit skeptical that we’re seein new footage but we’ll see.
Is this additional footage not included in the original “extended edition”? I do not have a money tree to spend money at the theatre on movies I already own.
If it is new footage – sans P.J.’s intro – then I’ll be one of the first in line, but if I spend money unneccessarily – I WILL BE VERY UPSET.
From what I can gather, the new version of LOTR really isn’t the extended editions being shown in theaters, as theonering.net seems to think. The main reason behind my thinking is this:
Movie: | Edition: | Minutes of Extra Material:
FOTR | Extended | 30
FOTR | Director’s Cut | 49
TTT | Extended | 43
TTT | Director’s Cut | 56
TROTK | Extended | 50
TROTK | Director’s Cut | 62
Also, the other article cites this extra stuff as being completely new. So unless that’s a flat-out lie, maybe it really IS all that extra material ON TOP OF what’s been released with the Extended Editions. But I guess there’s only one way to find out! 😀
I think Peter Jackson did mention there were certain scenes filmed (such as Faramir and Eowyn’s wedding) that never made it to the final cut–both theatrical and extended. Maybe we’ll see some of those? With three hours of additional filming, I’m mighty curious. 😛
Excuse me but why only in the US? Can some one please enlighten me on this? What happened to the rest of the world then or are we not as important?
I am definitely wanting to see this. Now I need to come up with money for tickets, but I already have two ticket-voucher-things for the theater. I’m so excited!!!
