Beautiful!!!!
so weird seeing it all shiny and new looking after all these years haha
very nice!
It looks great!
But what happened to the “my account” page?
Now all you can do is edit your profile…
I take it there won’t be different themes now? Or are there going to be new, better looking ones? 😛
And what happened to the member sites?
That was a shock… I’m not sure if I don’t like it because I don’t like change or what, but I’m having a hell of a time navigating! Hope I start to find things again soon, but I’m with ~Fëanor_Curufinwë~ – the ‘my account’ page was very useful for its shortcuts and I’m wondering if things I used to access there are gone or I just can’t find them, such as my comments on news, Elvish lessons and user points.
Galenfea, I understand your concerns — have no fear, but most of the things you’re missing will be back eventually. This site conversion was a massive undertaking, and it will take some time to fully complete it.
I think it looks very fancy and great! I’m a little sad that I can’t find the caption contest page anywhere, and I’m hoping that it’s one of the things that will be brought back. It was something that I always got a laugh from! The new site looks very nice though!
The more I look at it… the more I don’t like the new design.
I liked it at first… but it’s just not as cool looking as a lot of the other themes. 🙁 (no offense to the site designers… I’m sure they worked hard on it…)
(is the themes feature coming back? that was one of my favorite things about this site.)
Being picky about grammar, there is one small thing that I always wanted changed, but I was amused to see that that’s the one thing that hasn’t changed! 😀
The book discussion forum still says
“Have questions or comments on the books? Bring it up in here.”
It should be
“Have a question or comment on the books? Bring it up in here.”
or
“Have questions or comments on the books? Bring them up in here.”
Another thing – shouldn’t we say “Fora” rather than “Forums?”
Now that the Hobbit is coming out, some of the older members of the site might have been looking forward to coming back, meeting old friends and generally hanging out in old familiar surroundings.
CoE was like a familiar library or a familiar school in which people had favourite places to hang out. The themes added a special personal touch.
For those of us who used to spend a lot of time here before, a large part of the pleasure of coming back would have been the familiarity of the site layout and our favourite themes.
But now I guess we have to accept that that particular pleasure is gone. It’s like going back to your old school for a reunion, and finding that your old familiar building is gone, and in its place is a gleaming beautiful impersonal structure that means nothing to you.
The decision to convert the site was not made lightly. Our old software was far too hackable; to the point that over the past several months, we’ve been fending off hacking attempts behind the scenes on a weekly basis.
I’m sorry that you and some others don’t enjoy the necessary changes to the site. It’s always nice to know that my having spent nearly every spare minute of the past two months working on the conversion is so well appreciated.
And yes, we will have more themes eventually.
Rivka, you bow to no one. The new site looks fantastic and I know it’ll get even better in the days to come. Thanks for all the hard work and endless hours you put into it.
I just hope to see the captions contest and all the images return. But other than that I think the site looks great!
Happy 10th Anniversary, CoE!!! It’s been an awesome journey being part of this site and I look forward to what comes next! Most of all…a big Thank You to Rivka for all your hard work and dedication to keeping this site alive and well for so many years for us all!
I don’t come here all that often anymore, just when I need a reference or perhaps a name for a story I am working on. So I am going to reserve judgement on the site until I am here more often and have a better chance to look around. I wanted to let those that worked hard on the revamp know that the work is appreciated and that protecting the integrity of the site should be utmost in the minds of the owners, site admin and those that enjoy the web site. THANK YOU for the hard work.
Wow! I can’t believe it’s been ten years! Congratulations! I was surprised about the change but in a good way! I love the new change! I think it looks great! Although, I have to agree with ~Fëanor_Curufinwë~. What happened to the my account page? All you can do is edit it your profile. That is the only change that I don’t like. But I love everything else! Keep up the good work!
love the new face lift. Wow ten years, is LOTR movie series really that old? lol. It still looks as brilliant on screen as Cameron’s Avatar though it is. P.J. was ahead of his time…. <3 This series will always have a special place in my heart being it inspired me to study film.
Are you going to bring the games back? I really liked those…
Excited to uncover the new site. I feel like Bilbo going out to explore new lands! Ho!
