I am glad to see that at least, people are thinking of Tolkien’s work and Christianity, together. I am proudly Christian. And I will tell you straight up, I am NOT ashamed to proclaim to the entire world, that Jesus Christ is LORD of all!!!
But to be perfectly honest, I think that it should have been more blatantly Christian- if indeed, Tolkien was writing from a heart that loved the Lord. The Lord Himself says He hates when people ‘straddle the fence’. Your either one way or the other. You can’t be both, can’t have both. You have to choose.
C.S. Lewis was very open about his work and the Lord’s influence. Because of his love for God, it just showed in everything he did. I wish Tolkien’s work had been more that way.
I think though, if a person wants to get a TRUE glimpse of Christ and how He wants us to live- the love, loyalty, innocence, compassion.. then look at Sam and Frodo, the Fellowship. How I wish we could all be more like them, in how we treat each other!
