Biographical Info:

Andrew Lesnie was born in 1956 in Sydney, Australia where he still lives with his partner, Bronwen and has two sons, Jack and Sam.

He attended the Australian Film, Television and Radio School, from which he graduated in 1979 and has been a Member of the Australian Cinematography Society (ACS) since 1989. His career began when he had the opportunity to work as an Assistant Cameraman and Focus Puller on films ‘Patrick’ and ‘Now and Forever’. He then started to have a more involved role and in the middle of the 1980s he was starting to establish his career in film photography. He always had an interest in film, not necessarily cinematography, having a Super8 camera and made little thrillers.

Andrew has almost two decades worth of time behind the camera in Australia and Hollywood and he has made the most impossible feats come to life the big screen, enthralling audiences in the process.

The films that Andrew worked on were mostly well known in Australia and it wasn’t until he worked on ‘Babe’ in 1995 that his work was recognised in the USA. He continued to work in America on the films ‘Two if By Sea’ and ‘Babe: A Pig in the City.’

Apparently, Andrew read ‘The Lord of the Rings’ when he was about 17 years old, but is always ready to read them again, as he did when asked to join the crew on the filming of the trilogy. He joined late in the scheme of things he is reported to say, and was dumped into the middle of things when they were trying to do the Stairway to Khazad-Dûm, assisting the young graphic designers.
