Submitting to the Humor Section

Most parts of the Humor Section contain submissions from your fellow CoE members. We are always looking for more content in all areas, so here are some guidelines and rules for submissions.
The temporary admin for this section is ~nólemë~. If you have any questions, feel free to PM the admin.

Elrond’s Lost and Found

Works in Elrond’s Lost and Found are different from Tolkien Parodies in that they do not follow the plot of Tolkien’s books or the movies. This is a very generalized definition, because many different types of writings can be found in this section.

If you want to send in your submission, you can contact ~nólemë~ over PM. Please proofread your submission for grammar etc. before you submit.

You can get an idea of some of the things accepted to this section by checking out what’s already there, but you’re not limited only to the types of things that already appear in the section. Creativity is key!

Celeborn’s Karaoke Bar

This section is for taking the lyrics to any real song, and changing the lyrics around so that they fit into the Tolkien world. Please remember that you have to alter the words of the song: songs should have at least half of the original lyrics changed to get accepted here.

Additionally, this is the Humor Section. Songs submitted here are meant to be funny, amusing, cute, or some variation thereof. If it isn’t funny, it won’t be accepted. Lyrics that are violent, overly depressing or angsty, sexually graphic, or that contain mentions of extreme violence or self-harm are NOT funny and will not be accepted.

Rules:

  • Lyrics cannot be rude or offensive in any way.
  • You may parody the same song that other members have already done, but plagiarism won’t be tolerated.
  • Make sure to fill in the name of the original song AND the artist who sings it. If the name of the original singer is unknown, write “Unknown” in the field.
  • For added effect, you can add a bit of a script to the song, such as saying who is singing what, but this is optional.
  • You may upload an image with your song. Images should be no larger than 300 x 300 pixels, and must be relevant to the song. Images can be altered or photoshopped.
  • Parodies of the song “Stacy’s Mom” by Fountains of Wayne and “Sk8ter Boi” by Avril Lavigne will not be accepted anymore.

Haldir’s Pretty Pictures

The idea of Haldir’s Pretty Pictures is to edit photos by adding things, such as Agent Smith keeping watch over Rivendell, Gandalf coming face to face with Magneto, or putting characters in modern pictures, like having Legolas and Haldir in Disneyland, or Sam, Frodo, and Merry walking into a biker bar.

Rules and Guidelines:

  • No pictures of a sexually explicit or implied nature, no swearing, no crudeness, no vulgarity, and nothing else inappropriate.
  • Only quality pictures will be placed in the gallery.
  • Submit only your own work.
  • No movie stills with speech bubbles or captions. Images like that should be submitted to Pippin’s Picture Parodies.
  • Images should be no larger than 500 x 500 pixels.
  • Make sure your submission is funny. That is the point of the Humor Section, after all.

Pippin’s Picture Parodies

Here’s your chance to make a captioned picture, much like a Captions Contest. Find an image, then add text to it, either in the form of speech bubbles or a caption somewhere in the picture. The images we’re looking for include movie stills, TV screen captures, popular works of Tolkien art, and photos of the cast/characters.

If you need help creating Picture Parodies, please read How to Create a Captioned Picture by RodwenofRohan.

Rules and guidelines:

  • No pictures of a sexually explicit or implied nature, no swearing, no crudeness, no vulgarity, and nothing else inappropriate.
  • Only quality pictures will be placed in the gallery.
  • Submit only your own work.
  • No submissions with editing other than text (i.e. adding make-up to Legolas, placing the characters into a non-LotR setting). Images like that should be submitted to Haldir’s Pretty Pictures.
  • Images should be no larger than 500 x 500 pixels
  • Make sure your submission is funny. That is the point of the Humor Section, after all.

Tolkien Parodies

Writing a parody is basically taking the movie, or parts of the books, and rewriting them in a more humorous way. Cassie Claire’s Very Secret Diaries are an example of a parody, because they DO in fact follow the movie events, although in a much more hilarious fashion. Character/place names can be changed, funny twists and turns can be added, but they still basically follow the plot that Tolkien (or Peter Jackson) created.

If you want to send in your submission, you can contact ~nólemë~ over PM. Please proofread your submission for grammar etc. before you submit.

Humorous Fan Fiction

Humorous fanfiction must be submitted through the Fan Fiction section. Make sure to select ‘humor’ as your story’s genre, otherwise it will not appear in Humor.

Very Secret Diaries

Obviously, we cannot accept submissions for the Very Secret Diaries (since they are written by Cassandra Claire and hosted here with her permission). Also, we won’t accept any submissions that follow her diaries too closely. Plagarism will not be tolerated.

And that’s it! Have a great time reading through all there is to see, whether you’d like to contribute or not. Thanks, and enjoy!
