Acupuncture is one of the most fascinating modalities within Eastern medicine. It is amazing how the simple insertion of a needle can influence the entire physiology of the body. An acupuncturist’s goal is not to only relieve the patient’s symptoms, but to balance the the energy system of the entire body so the underlying problem will not recur. As a result of this rebalancing, owners often notice that not only has the original problem disappeared, but the horse seems more energetic and happy.

During an acupuncture treatment, hair thin needles are inserted into the skin at locations known as the acupuncure points. The needles typically are inserted from 1/10 of an inch to 4/10 inch deep, although some procedures require the needles to be inserted much deeper.

The acupuncture points are specific places along lines of energy, known as the meridian lines, each of which corresponds to specific functions of the horses body. When there is a problem in that area of the body, the energy that flows through that area is decreased, or sometimes even totally blocked off. The insertion of a metal needle at the acupuncture point stimulates the energy, causing an increase or return of the regular energy. Re-establishment of the normal flow of energy increases circulation and stimulates the nerves, allowing the area previously depleted of energy to return to normal!

So I hope you decide that instead of the traditional ‘conventional’ medicine, you will use holistic acupuncture for your Rohan stable!

IMPORTANT – Of course as with any type of medical care, a professional must be consulted for this type of treatment.
