How to make the Tower of Saruman

Ever wanted the Tower of Saruman in your LotR collection? Now you can by following these steps:

What you will need

Scissors
Tape
Cardboard
A Cardboard Tube (Wrapping Paper Tube)
Black Permanent Marker

1) Cut your tube to your desired height. Don’t make it too big, or it will look kind of funny later. Recommended height=11-12 inches or 29 cm.

2) Color the tube black with your marker. This might take a while but don’t give up. Take breaks if you need to.

3) Set aside your tube. Next you will need your “flat” cardboard.

4) Trace four tower “wings”. Look at diagram A. Side #1 is 8 x 18 inches (20 x 710 cm) if you make your tube 11-12 inches (29 cm).

5) After you trace all four, cut out all four. Then color them with your black marker.

6) Tape the “wings” to the tube 90 degrees apart from each other. Use four pieces of tape for each “wing”.

7) Color the tape with your marker. You can use something else than your marker, for not all markers will work well for this.

8) With you remaining flat cardboard, cut out a circular piece to fit the hole at the top of the tower.

Now you have the tower of Saruman added to your collection!

You can also make the Tower of Sauron by following the same steps. Except only make two wings instead of four. See diagram B. for how it should look.

How to make The Lamp of Saruman

Tips before starting

1) Make sure your lamp is thin enough for a cardboard tube to fit over it.

2) Unplug your lamp to prevent from getting shocked.

3) Use a low wattage bulb to prevent from a fire.

4) Use a lamp you don’t use frequently.

What you will need

Scissors
Tape
Cardboard
A Cardboard Tube (Wrapping Paper Tube)
Black Permanent Marker
A Lamp

1) Follow both tip 1 and 2

2) Put the uncut cardboard tube over your lamp. Cut the tube down until it comes at least an inch (2.5 cm) below the bulb socket.

3) When your tube is your desired height, use your black marker to color it all in.

4) Cut a hole for your switch or chain on your lamp. If your lamp has a chain, this will be easy for you. But if you have a turn-switch, this might be hard. You might have to cut the tube in half, or most of the way, for this to work. Leave your tube on your lamp now.

5) With your flat cardboard, trace four “wings”. See diagram A. on the first page for how it should look.

6) With your black marker, color the four wings.

7) Tape the wings 90 degrees apart from each other on the tube. Use four pieces of tape for each wing.

8) Using your marker, color the tape black.

9) After your tape is dry, replace the bulb and plug your lamp in.

And now you have the Lamp of Saruman!

You can also make the Lamp of Sauron by following all of these steps. But, only make two wings instead of four. See diagram B. on how the wings should look.
