Amon Sûl - also known as Weathertop and the Hill of the Wind - was once the site of a great watchtower built by the Númenóreans during the time of Elendil.

It was located at the southern end of the Weather Hills that lay west of the Shire in the region of Eriador. For a time, it was home to one of the seven palantíri which were brought to Middle-earth.

The forces of the Witch-King of Angmar eventually destroyed the tower.

Weathertop was where Frodo Baggins was wounded by the Witch-King when he was travelling with Aragorn, Sam, Meriadoc and Peregrin.
