Means 'Iron of the Flaming Star'.

One of a pair of swords forged by Eöl the Dark Elf, the other being Anguirel. The swords were both forged from meteoritic iron, and could cut through any iron found in the earth.

Anglachel was given to Thingol by Eöl as payment to live in Nan Elmoth. The sword was also wielded by Beleg of Doriath. It brought about the accidental death of Beleg, at the hands of Túrin. The sword mourned for the death of Beleg by turning dull and blunt.

It was reforged as Túrin's sword Gurthang.
