A horse of the Rohirrim, who lost his rider in a battle with some orcs out side of Fangorn Forest. His name meant 'swift'.

Éomer lent him to Legolas when his riders met Legolas, Aragorn and Gimli on the trail of orcs. From then on, he regularly carried two riders, as Gimli often rode behind Legolas.

Arod served Legolas well throughout the War of the Ring, and was last heard of carrying Legolas and Gimli to Edoras in Theoden's funeral procession.
