Chief of the Moria orcs in TA 2700s. The first time he appeared was in TA 2790. When Thrór wanted to re-establish the the Kingdom of Khazad-dûm, he was captured by the orcs, and he was killed. His severed head was thrown out to the dwarves waiting outside, with the runes: AZOG branded onto it.

When Thrór's son Thráin heard about this, he wanted revenge on Azog, and so started the War of the Dwarves and the Orcs.

The final battle of that war was held outside of Moria nine years after the War started. Azog was at this battle, and killed Náin. Azog himself was killed by Náin's son Dáin.

Azog had one known son, Bolg who lead the orcs in the Battle of Five Armies.
