The Battle of the Camp was one of the battles fought in defence of the realm of Gondor in year 1944 of the Third Age.

The Wainrider people of the East made an alliance with other Easterlings, and a dual attack on Ithilien was launched. While the Wainriders assaulted Ithilien from the north, the armies of the Haradrim crossed the River Poros and invaded South Ithilien.

The northern assault of the Wainriders was met by the King of Gondor, Ondoher, with his two sons Artamir and Faramir I. The enemy swept through Gondor's defense, killing the King and his sons, and routing his army. They thought their victory was complete, and the Wainriders paused to celebrate their conquest.

However, the Easterlings in the south had been defeated. The Gondorian Captain Eärnil had led Gondor's Southern Army to victory over the Haradrim, destroying their army in South Ithilien, to the north of the River Poros.

Eärnil turned north and came up to the camp where the Wainriders were feasting. He easily routed them, and many of them were killed in the Dead Marshes.

As a reward for the victory, Eärnil was offered the Crown of Gondor.
