The Battle of the Crossings of Poros was a crucial victory for Gondor against their ancient enemies, the Haradrim. Crucial help was given by Gondor's new-found allies, the Riders of Rohan.

The leader of the Gondorian troops was Túrin II, Steward of Gondor. The leader of the Rohirrim was Folcwine of the Mark, who, by riding to Gondor's aid, fulfilled the Oath of Eorl, even though his twin sons, Fastred and Folcred, were slain in the battle. They were buried together upon the shores of the River Poros in a single mound.
