Belegost was the name given by the Elves to the Dwarf-city of Gabilgathol, situated in the east of the Blue Mountains, north of Mount Dolmed. It was known to men as Mickleburg.

The Dwarves of Belegost aided Thingol in the creation of Menegroth.

In the ruin of Beleriand, the dwarf city was lost under the waters. The survivors went to Moria.
