In Sindarin, Celebrían translated to "silver-crowned lady" or "silver queen".

Celebrían was the daughter of Celeborn and Galadriel, the Lord and Lady of Lothlórien. Through Galadriel she gained Noldorin descent, and through her father, Sindarin heritage.

In TA 109, Celebrían married Elrond. In 130, she gave him two sons, Elladan and Elrohir. Later in 241, she bore him Arwen.

Celebrían left Rivendell to visit her parents, in TA 2509. On the Redhorn Pass underneath Caradhras, she was captured and tortured by Orcs. The twins, Elladan and Elrohir, quickly rode and succeeded in rescuing their mother. Unfortunately, they discovered she had received a poisoned wound.

Elrond was able to partly heal Celebrían's wound, but still emotionally scarred by her experience, she passed over the sea to the Undying Lands in TA 2510.
