Also called the Dragon-helm of Dor-lómin, the Helm of Hador, Dragonhead of the North.

It was made by Telchar the Dwarf for the Dwarf-lord Azaghâl. It was made of grey steel, and gold, and it had victory runes engraved on it. It had a visor, and a gilded image of the head of Glaurung the dragon. It had a power that protected its wearer from wounds or death.

It was given to Maedhros by Azaghâl as thanks for saving his life and treasure.

Maedhros sent it as a gift of friendship to Fingon, but none of Fingon's house could wear it, as it was made for stout dwarf heads. The only one who could wear it was Hador, and it was given to him when he became Lord of Dor-lómin.

It was worn most by a descendant of Hador, Túrin. Because of that helm, Túrin took the name 'Gorthol', meaning 'Dread Helm'.

It was this helm though, that betrayed his true identity to Morgoth. Túrin was betrayed to Morgoth by Mîm the petty-dwarf.
