A river of Wilderland and tributary of the Forest River, originating in the Mountains of Mirkwood. It flowed at first North-west before taking a wide loop to the North-east and crossing the Elf Path from where it flowed on to meet the Forest River some way West of the Elvenking’s halls.

The Enchanted River was a swift stream of dark water and anyone who came into contact with it fell into deep slumber and forgetfulness. It was about 12 yards wide at the point where it crossed the Elf Path and having been warned by Gandalf,Thorin and Company took great care when crossing it, using a boat they found on the bank near a broken bridge. Unfortunately, Bombur fell in and the dwarves had to carry his dormant bulk for many miles.
