A Man, Lord and King of Dale in the middle of the Third Age. His parentage and date of birth are not stated but he died in TA 2770.
Girion was King of Dale and the ancestor of Bard the Bowman. He perished when Dale was destroyed by Smaug in TA 2770, but his wife and child escaped, and his descendant, Bard avenged his death in TA 2941
Girion owned an exquisite emerald necklace, which languished for years in Smaug’s hoard. The Emeralds of Girion were retrieved by Dain Ironfoot after the Battle of Five Armies in TA 2941. He in turn gave them to Bard, the new and rightful King of Dale.
