Gothmog was the Lieutenant of Minas Morgul during the time of the War of the Ring. He participated in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, leading the armies of Sauron after the loss of his lord, the Witch-king.

In response to the arrival of the Rohirrim, he called his army's reserve out of Osgiliath and into the main battle.

There is much speculation about to which race he may have belonged, but there is no concrete evidence to support any claim so we cannot say if he was a Man, Orc, or of some other race.
