After Morgoth's victory in the horrible Nirnaeth Arnoediad, his Orcs raised a great mound in the midst of the land called Anfauglith.

There beneath the lone mound were buried all of the defeated and slain Eldar and Edain who had fought so diligently against Morgoth.

The mound became known as Haudh-en-Ndergin, 'Hill of Slain', or Haudh-en-Nirnaeth, 'Hill of Tears'.

Huor, the brother of Húrin, and the father of Tuor, was buried under that mound. After leaving young Tuor in the care of the Grey Elves, his mother Rían journeyed to Anfauglith and laid herself down upon the mound and passed away.
