Ice Bay of Forochel
The Ice Bay of Forochel was a large bay carved out of the Northern Wastes of Middle-earth after the destruction of Beleriand. The shores of the bay were inhabited by the Lossoth, a nomadic people who were the last remnant of the Forodwaith.
In TA 1974, Arvedui, the Last King of Arnor, sought refuge with the Lossoth. He went to the Ice Bay of Forochel while being sought by the Witch-king of Angmar.
When Círdan, at the Gray Havens, heard of Arvedui's plight, he sent a ship to the Ice Bay of Forochel to rescue him. Despite being warned not to by the Lossoth, who sensed danger, Arvedui boarded the ship and it attempted to sail back to Lindon. A storm trapped the ship in the ice and it ws crushed and foundered. Thus Arvedui perished. The Palantíri of Amon Sûl and Annuminas were in Arvedui's possession and sank to the bottom of the bay.
