Ingold was a guardsman of Minas Tirith who led a group of soldiers who stood vigil over the passage through the Rammas Echor. He and his men were posted where the road from Minas Tirith to Rohan left the gate of the Pelennor Fields.

When they were forced to pull back to the city during the War of the Ring, it was feared that the Rohirrim would not then be able to reach the city, for the road to the North was then blocked from passage.
